Could someone here who knows this game well tell me whether resources are necessary in putting together a big military machine?

I've heard a couple brief references to this, but have not really seen any evidence that this is true. For instance when I started playing as Sweden the intro said something about never running out of lumber for building ships.

I think that this would be great if it was a part of the game; where it would be necessary to gather enough lumber and metals to build your army. Whether this would be done through conquest or trade. This would add depth to the game.

I would be appreciative if anyone could answer this question.

Eh, I think the "Lumber and Metals" idea would ruin the fun of the game and make it too complicated - it wouldn't work well for the ETW series. Just keep the gold/florins and I'll be happy

But yes, it would add depth and realism, but if they added this I would not play it anymore.
