My top three finishers : Lyon,Ac Milan, and surprise surprise Chelsea.

    ;)

Just waiting until Shevi starts scoring again. Drogba got a new deal so he need not score so much anymore...

FC Barcelona is my all time favorite. And for Galatasaray, I don't even care any more. They have only 1 point.

Anyone [apart from Aussies] ever seen film clips of Aussie Rules football?

It's as big a passion in Southern states of Aus as soccer is in Europe or Gridiron in the States.

Has been a league comp since 1898.

    Rugby rules up North.

Aussie Soccer is starting to get a larger following now since the good effort in the World Cup, but it's still way behind Rules and Rugby.

    Yeah,

did watch some Aussie rules football back in late 1980´s I think. pretty rough games. A couple of times one guy climbed ( =ran) the back of the opposite side player to get higher and catch the ball. I´m sure the football shoes left nice marks on the back...

Yep, it's pretty tough, that's for sure, no helmets and armour like the Gridiron boys.

They call those leaps you mentioned marks, and they can be very spectacular, some have to be seen to be believed, it's one of the things that make the game great for Aussies like me.

Been a member of my club for many years, but no success in the big final [Grand Final]
We were in four Grand Finals in the 90's and lost the lot, groan!

What do you think of the standard of Aussie Soccer?
Didn't do to bad in the World Cup, and I think they beat England a few years ago.

Some excellent players like Mark Viduka and Harry Kewell. And many more. I did play the Championship manager game so that´s where you learn players and their home countries rather quickly.

    West Ham:

Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez has been ordered to wear a Brazil shirt in training for two weeks by his West Ham team-mates as punishment for his walk-out in a Premier League match.

He must have learned his lesson. I only watched him playing in national team and I must say he is promising.

    Italy, oh Italy....

    Palermo chief sent goat's head

Palermo sporting director Rino Foschi has been sent a young goat's head through the post.

The package, which was posted in Palermo, was opened by Foschi's wife in Cesena.

Ive been watching some of the FA cup on Fox Soccer Channel here in Texas. What does the FA cup consist of? Just teams in the UK?

They need to have the world cup every year instead of every two.

I want to go to a couple MLS games here in Houston. Our Dynamo are quite good. :D

    @ Tim :

In the FA cup, there are only English teams, no Scottish teams for example. Contrary to the 1ere League, more clubs can compete (about 600 IIRC), of course it's a cup, not a championship.

The World cup occurs every 4 years.

I did not know Houston's name was Dynamo, it reminds me Eastern Europe clubs, that's fun, I imagine the Partizan Los Angeles or Lokomotiv Seattle

MLS soccer sucks! Zinedane (sp?) could come out of retirement and run circles around most of the US Players! There is hardly any fan base either, and i'm sorry, but US Soccer Team Names are amongst the worst - if not the worst - that i have heard of. Its like they tried to incorporate European and South/Central American names.

Like the MLS Chivas (forget who they are) dont do justice to the original, Gudualahara Chivas. Yeah, i prob spelt that wrong too. MLS is a joke, in every sense. I suppose thats why Beckham came over, trying to turn the Joke into something real. Not sure how successful he will be...perhaps all the aging European players will come here for the money...

So far I think most of the "great old" football players in the European league have gone to the Arabian league where they get sacks of gold for playing football there, I think. Figo will join them next season, and so far only "Becks" is going to the US, have not heard anyone else thinking about doing the same thing as David though. They used to have an ice hockey league as well some twenty years ago but I don´t know if they got tired of that one, the Sheiks that is.

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has defended his club's decision to sign Ronaldo from Real Madrid, insisting "he is not fat - just robust".

    ---------

During last summer´s WC games Gary Lineker commented that even a penguin is faster than Ronnie...now that´s nasty!

Former Juventus star Fabio Cannavaro has been voted the best player of the 2005-06 Serie A season by his peers.

The accolade completes a hat-trick of awards for the Real Madrid defender, who won the Ballon D'Or in November and FIFA World Player of the Year award a month later.

    ------------

He must have done something right....

    ;)
