Gentlemen, I wish to inform you about one of the best turn-based 2D tactical WW2 PC wargames: WinSPWW2 You may downloaded it (It's for FREE) from here: **link removed for security reasons** cheers, Pyros [ 17. May 2006, 03:51 PM: Message edited by: Otto ]
I took a look at the website and the game seems like a remake of the Dos version of Steel Panthers re-engineered for windows. I like the intent here Pyros, but please don't link directly to downloadable files without any additional information, (I've removed the link), as there may be a security risk. Below, I've included a link to the game website, where you can get additional information about the game and download it as well. http://shrapnelgames.com/SPCamo/wSPWW2/1.htm
Hi, In my first post I have added just the DL link in order to avoid including anything else that could be considered as "commercial" post. Since you have added the above link, it is just fine (anyone who wishes to download the FREE DL game should redirect to the downloads and then click on one of the free DL). http://shrapnelgames.com/SPCamo/wSPWW2/1.htm cheers, Pyros p.s It is a really great game
Thanks for the follow up Pyros, I appreciete it. It really does look like a good game. Can you play against other players or just the computer?
And this should be in the WWII Simulations & Gaming area, where it is now. [ 12. August 2006, 01:23 PM: Message edited by: Otto ]
it is a VERY good game yes it does have an internet based version, which i just downloaded. doesent take up much space, so all should download this good game takes a bit to get good at, but once you get the hang of it, its a great game. good game to pass time in the office etc.
Looks like a variant of the old Steel Panthers game. I would be interested in seeing the algorythms used for various resolutions of combat and in particular morale. Is it turn based or RT? The command and control aspect would also be interesting to see.
SPWW2 is a variant of the old DOS Steel Panthers game but using the Steel Panthers II - Modern Battles game engine. A different variant of Steel Panthers based on the Steel Panthers III - Brigade Command is also available (see matrixgames.com for details). This game is called Steel Panthers World at War or SPWAW and is also completely free. In fact a new version of this game will be made available on the weekend of 28 May 2006. This will bring to a total of three variants of SPWAW; the official Matrix game version 8.3, a version called SPWAW H2H and the latest version described above. SPWAW and SPWW2 are very similar in appearance and in play but contain different combat routines. Both SPWAW and SPWW2 offer advantages over each other. There are ardent fans of both games. I suggest you download all 4 versions and start wargaming WW2.
Gentlemen, the first part of the ANZAC Campaign v 1.0 is released (for FREE). You may DL it from any of these two links: http://www.strategyzoneonline.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=1208 http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=436484&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1 If you don't have the game engine (FREE GAME - Steel Panthers WinSPWW2) you may find it here (also don't forget to apply the version 1.1b patch) : http://www.shrapnelgames.com/SPCamo/wSPWW2/6.htm Few screenshots from the battle of Corinth Canal chapter (26 April 1941):
I still have the fortune of owning an old Win95 PC to play these old games on. Good to see they are being upgraded for XP and free. I may have to come back to this topic to download the game one day, when my old Win95 becomes extinct.
I down loaded the free version and found it very good I also got hold of the other one as well the post WW2 and that one is good, one thing I do like they speeded up the bombers as they cross the screen and the new look is nice. Of course I shall be more on the WW2 version more.
it has come a long way with those.....the games are still very good, but they are free when they cost a good bit of money back then... i still thank Pyros for finding this game, because i have had it since he first started talking about it, and it is a rather addictive game.....good passing time at work
The result was I fought to a draw I manage to take the first hill but heavy losses. The scenario was No.7 Ferdinand’s at Kursk.
I started a thread a while back about free ww2 games and someone said this game, and posted a link aswell. I downloaded it and am yet to try it out.
is this turn based or real time, if it is turn based what are the spaces that you can move squares, hexagons, or something else?
