I was reading about this British aircraft and learned a few new things. The Royal Navy sent it to the Gulf in 1961 because the Iraqis were threatening Kuwait. The aircraft had a 51% loss rate, worse than the F-104. The Royal Navy thought of using rubber decks and aircraft with no landing gear on it's carriers. There is a nice nine plane formation picture of it at this site. http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/scimitar/history.html
Hydraulics seems to have been one of many major problems. Even ejecting wasn't always a safe option: http://www.ejection-history.org.uk/Aircraft_by_Type/Scimitar.htm
Man !! What a cool site. My week end is going to be spent looking at everything on the site. Thank you so much, I love stuff like that.
