Youths take aim at Russian foes

Activists from pro-Kremlin youth groups mean to take a shot at all "enemies of Russia" ranging from Osama bin Laden to chess champion turned opposition leader Garry Kasparov -- and they mean literally.

Some 25 "political shooting ranges" with portraits or effigies of politicians will allow youngsters "to vent their hatred of Russia's enemies" by shooting darts or paint at them, a Nashi movement activist Makar Vikhlyantsev, the project's mastermind, told AFP.

Earlier this month, some 100 youths from the pro-Kremlin Molodaya Gvardia group took part in a "symbolic execution" of "Russia's enemies" during a paintball game in Vladivostok.

    -----------

I wonder if it´s ok for the youth of the opposition to shoot paint balls at a picture of Putin then??

Seems like harmless fun to me, no? ( while at the same time making a political point :D) I have personally been to shooting ranges in the US wear they post pictures of Osama Bin Laden and actually use REAL ammo.

As for shooting at pictures of Putin, I would probably not recommend it. But then again I would say the same thing about shooting at pictures with the faces of George Bush or Tarja Halonen on them either ;)

By the way is this Government funded or orchestrated or is it a bunch of youths just organizing? It didnt really mention anything of the sort in the article.

I think that being able to shoot people symbolically isn't the best idea, especially as it isn't recommended for everybody , but it's at least some sort of democracy and paintball is a game so why not? I've seen more stupid things than that.

Nope, nothing new about Russia really. The only thing that "worries me" is that these are to show "power" to the press and the pics were not taken by mistake, these were meant for the press to be seen all over the world.

Just like Russian fighter/cargo planes fly deep inside Finnish air space every other week and we never get any answers why the planes do that . That is power politics. A Swedish plane entered our air space a couple of days ago and they said they were sorry (for two days). That´ll be the day I see Russia say they are sorry.

    Dont wait too long.

Helsingin Sanomat - International Edition - Foreign

If you look closely there are links where Russia apologises but the article is in your native tongue and unfortunately I was unable to read it. ;)

To me, this sounds exactly like what is now going on in Iran, Lebanon, and in other middle eastern countries. I've seen the news reporst and documentaries of 4,5,6, year old kids, already talking slogans mentioning murdering Isrealis, Americans, Britons etc etc. Does anyone remember a short while ago that Iran had a cartoon character (copied directly from Mickey Mouse) and showed this cartoon character going around and planning suicide bombings, kidnappings and other crimes. As well, they also had another cartoon character that tought these tots, how to conceal a siucide vest, and how to go about tricking innocents, and then exploding themselves along with innocent bystanders.

Anyway, this sounds to me, exactly what is happening now, in the middle east. Also, I think vladimir pooooootin, is one sick turd.

Hey, hey, hey now carl, a little harsh do you think? :D

Would this not be a better comparison of shooting at bull's eye's with a picture of Osama Bin Laden on them? I know because I have been one of the guys doing the shooting at the gun range and even with Saddam Hussein. I have also seen these on TV as news networks showed such targets and made jokes about them. Something tells me that they were Bush supporters?

From what I understand these are just a bunch of youths who organized to show support for the Kremlin. Doesnt say anything about the Kremlin organizing this. Something tells me that perhaps there are shooting ranges in Texas where youths might shoot at bulls eyes of Hillary? :D

Oh and these are not 4,5 or 6 year old brain washed kids pledging death to Israel carrying REAL guns. These are paintball guns and they are college students who are also using Osama Bin Laden as a target along with some Russian traitors ( according to them ) I dont see any of foreign leaders as targets nor any anti semetic or hateful chantings promising death to the infidels ;)

Sorry Carl, not sure I agree with your anology here.

Exactly, and that's the reason why the article posted by Slon called this a "symbolic execution". I agree with you on this one Carl.

In terms of posting anyones face on a target is wrong IMO too. So we all seems to be in agreement here. I was just triying to point out that it wasnt the Kremlin who orchestrated it.

Hi Jeff, what did the Marine Recruit known as "Joker" in: Full Metal Jacket say, when he was approached by the Gunny Sergeant and asked about one of the General Orders? Joker said something to the tune of: "Even though the Private has been instructed on how to post multi-quotes, the Private has forgotten how to post multi-quotes." And then I think the Gunny let loose enough curse words at the Private, that could peel the paint off a Battleship. :-D

Slon, I now this is not organised by the Kremlin, and when I said you posted this article, I meant "the article we are talking about".

There are no charges against you.

"guards, you can let him go ! " :D
