I tripped over this site tonight. It is an attempt to create a record of the names of individuals who won various awards from most countries involved in WWII. Quite ambitious, but they do have some information which may be of use to some researchers.

I'm trying to find more information on William ("Bill") Green from WW2, I believe he was a pilot and buried in Scotland, according my relatives. My grandmother Mary had four children with him, one son and three daughters. Unfortunately, that's all I've heard of him. Please let me know if you think you have more information on this. Thanks, and great forum!!

On obtaining additional information such as After Action Reports:
The easiest thing to do is to establish an electronic account with
the NARA and submit your request via the web.

You can register under New User here:

    https://eservices.archives.gov/order...ETS=1247868202

"...request the AAR for the specific month for
the regiment. Battalion journals may be available for the 324th....

If the NARA has the AAR, and they probably do, they will send
you a letter and tell you the cost.

...it is possible but unlikely, ... that Company-level reports survived. The only
common exception is Morning Reports, which are available from NPRC, St. Louis, for a fee...

"...site to translate these map coordinates into Long/Lat. I usually put them into Google Earth, but the site has a Map quest link. The site is The "Coordinates Translator" Again, the European campaign used the Nord De Guerre map for France, Belgium and Germany."

My grandfather's unit was twice cited in the Order of the Day of the Belgium Army, and as a result was awarded the Belgian Fourragere. In researching how I could find the general orders authorizing the award i found the Dept. of Army Pamphlet titled "Unit Citation and Campaign Credit Register". It is a 550+ page pdf, so be patient downloading it. It has each individual unit, the campaigns they were in, the unit awards and citations, along with the General Orders authorizing the awards. I found info about the above awards as well as my grandfather's unit's Presidential Unit Citation.

    http://www.army.mil/usapa/epubs/pdf/p672_1.pdf

I used the info in the above doument to find copies of the actual general orders. I contacted the Pentagon Library. I requested copies of the general orders I found in the above pamphlet, and within two hours I got the copies of the Orders. SIMPLY AMAZING considering how many weeks and months one waits for every other request for information made to a government agency. Here is the link for the Pentagon Library. Click on "Ask the Librarian" and they will get back to you in short order:

Hi! I'm a new member, based in Ceredigion (Cardiganshire) in Mid Wales. My interest topic is the former Anti-Aircraft training camp at Aberayron, active 1940-45 and 1946-48 as a Polish Resettlement Corps Camp. Should like to hear from anyone who has memories of the camp (13th Light AA Practice Camp or Rezerwa Oficerow 2 Korpusu). Our local history group would like to celebrate these WW11 links in some way.
    Best wishes,
    Peter

Wow, U.K. gets the job done in listing links..........what happened to us from the U.S.....we are getting pelted down yaaah! I do have a favorite place to list because the website is quite well done and is not of the unit my father was in but is identical training done in the same geographic locations that his group received. However he went into the PTO and most of this particular group went to the ETO. Check it out for a pretty well done link.. :: www.skylighters.org -- The Official Web Site of the 225th AAA Searchlight Battalion Veterans Association, Inc. ::
