I have a bayonet and scabbard. I have been unable to identify it and am not sure if it is wwii or wwi. Would appreciate some help in direction to a site where I can get info or some assistance please. Thanks.
Fortune's right, a pic would be a great help... It's such an enormous subject, with all combatant ( and also non-combatant ) nations in both World Wars issuing many different types of bayonet, that I don't believe there is one single site which could help you. that looks like it is from ww2, but i cant make any promises as martin says its such an enormous subject, and oftentimes people will mistake bayonets from many wars such as one from the american civil war may be confused with a ww1 bayonet? etc. and yes i have seen somebody mistake a civil war bayonet for a ww1 bayonet. lol
Reminds me of a Garand Bayonet slightly but I dont think it is. The blade and scabbard are similar to my K98 bayonet... Perhaps a WW1 or Axis variant of the K98 bayonet, possibly a licence made variant? However the K98 doesnt usual have a ring to go over the barrel, generally a groove with a lock... Interesting bayonet...
Thanks for the input. Red Baron, I am not sure what you mean by this "possibly a licence made variant?". I have looked at bayonets until I am nearly cross-eyed. There are so many similar ones, but this one doesn't seem to match any so far.
i have an m1 garand and a 30 cal. rifle in my basement, I have two bayonets one of which fits on the 30 cal. but the smaller one wont budge onto the m1. i have the same problem. sucks.
The pic looks the the one I had that fit a 7mm Mauser I used to have (Argentinian). Whether it was for it or not, I'm not sure, but mine fit. Go to your next gun/knife(pc) show, probably in Cedar Rapids (at the fairground) and I'm sure you'll find someone that will tell you what it is, or trade you for (sell you) one that does. You'll find your Garand/Carbine ones there too. Try the ones you buy out on guns in the racks, to be sure.
I found out it is a Turkish bayonet from around 1938. I was able to identify it from a book An Illustrated History Mayonets by Martin J. Brayley. It is a great book with super pictures. Thanks all.
Someone please direct me to a "good" site that shows Artilleria Nacional Toledo bayonets. I get all kind of goofy stuff other than a wide picture selection from every site that I que into the search engine. Mine has a checkered wooden handle. There are many different designs for the handle although the blade is about the same (@ 16" I think). It's pretty rusty (nothing some carburetor cleaner wouldn't take off) and the leather scabbard is split down the seam. I wouldn't think it would be worth more than Jack's beans but, I'd like to see just what I have.
