In the ''where would you serve'' thread I notice a increasingly large amount of people wanting to serve in the SS. Some people openly say they would serve in units known for war crimes as well as even the Gestapo sometimes. I couldn't even see how some would justify that by wanting to serve in a ''clean'' combat unit. People say this while having full knowledge of WWII and specifically the SS.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying the Allies where perfect, and I'm not super-Patriotic but I can honestly say in reality no matter how ''cool/intresting'' (if thats the right word, I use the term loosley) I find the Nazis, there is no way when it came down to real life I could serve in there military with the knowledge I have now and even to some extent possibly then if I where alive.

I ask to these people why? What is your reasoning, would you really feel comfortable knowing who and what you where fighting for?.

I personally think it's letting your imagination straying from reality. Either that or you really are a fascist.

(I made this a separate thread to avoid mixing 2 topics into one.)

    J.A.,

A good many of those are new and/or recently joined members, some have been shown the door or have been asked to "take a short break" from the forum. I would like to see the reasoning behind those choices also, it could have a "cleansing" effect.

Understood Slipdigit, I look forward to any responses as it is begging to actually bother me. I use to think that way myself but when actually critically thinking about it I realized how wrong it is.

I did ask this same question in the "Where would you serve?" thread also. I am also amazed. Ill repost some of my questions here also.

" And why not serve in the forces of your own country during the war? I have noticed that some here would rather serve in the military forces of other countries rather then in thier own homeland. Some even in the military forces that were the enemy of thier own country. Especially the German military. Are you all so enamoured of the Nazis that you fight your own countrymen? Why would you fight for the Nazis?" Would you commit the atrocities and war crimes that the Nazis and other Fascists were known to have commited and some tried and convicted of? Would you have fought against the Westen Allies or your own countrymen?. Or just the Soviet "Hordes"? Do you agree with the Nazis starting the war and the Millions of deaths that occurred because of it? Do you agree with the Racial policies of the Nazi Party?

A good question a lot of people seem to be avoiding.

I hope for straight answers in this thread, whether people admit they are Pro-Nazi or recant their statements genuinely (lets hope for the latter).

It somewhat amazes me too, JC. My feeling is and always had been "America (the US) right or wrong."

I live in the South and I obviously revere such people as Robert E Lee, Jefferson Davis, David Phelps*, Thomas Jefferson Mullins* and Andrew Barganier*, but I would never consider siding against the United States in a conflict. I can only guess that those who would choose that government to support must hate certain people more than they love their own.

*Some of my ancestors who fought for the South during the War of Northern Aggression.

With these young ones IMO its the appeal of the "cool" uniforms and "glorious" battles along with the "German weapons are freaking sweet!" mentality. I was that way wheen I was a child. But after studying the war and its effects more closely I began to understand better and my thoughts, views and opinions changed.

Same with me, I just turned 16 in April (having been interested in WWII since age 10) and the reality of it all smacked me in the face like a pile of bricks not to long ago.

    As you should.:D

Not that 16 is a bad age, I had a good time when I was around 16. But, I did an awful lot of growing up in the next 5-6 years. By you actions here, I suspect you are already well on your way.:p

Maybe most are not looking at the SS through history's eyes? The SS was one arm where pedigree was not a hindrance to advancement. One could rise as high as one one was able in the SS.So maybe they see the SS as a true egalitarian service where ones station did not hinder ones opportunities.

So committing atrocities such as rape, mass murder, and slave driving is ok if you get a easier promotion after? Only a ego maniac would use that as justification.
