The man on he far righ of the photo (last man with a full body image)...what is that he is holding accross his stomach? It kind of looks like a bookbag but he doesn't look like he is part of the 502nd with his PIR patch and helmet... he also was holding a sword on his right hip...could it be a 506th service company?

If you'll notice on his helmet DOES have the insignia of the 502nd. The heart.

The backpack is most likely just extra equipment, or maybe maps for the CO of his company?

Also, I don't see where you see a sword...

I have a actual physical copy of the picture and see no sword.

The trooper at the far right in the famous photo of Ike visiting members of the 502 PIR on June 5 has been identified as PFC Michael Babich, and he is carrying a Grenades Bag, which held 28 grenades without cardboard containers, or 11 grenades with.

The bag around his neck appears to be the "Bag, Carrying, Ammunition". A canvas bag to carry ammunition in the field.

I think he referring to the item I have circled. It has the appearance of the handle of a blade weapon

He did ask this Jeff ."what is that he is holding accross his stomach?". I assume he means the ammunition bag. As to what is on his hip it is probably a trench knife.

This is what I was referring to. I figured it to be knife, but keckan may have worded it as a sword, although the blade is on his left hip.
