Hello, My name is Noël and I'm a 16-year old (17 on the 24th) war-enthusiast from the Netherlands. I registered two days ago and already made a few posts here, but I decided to introduce myself here aswell. So, as I already said I'm from the Netherlands (or Holland if you really want to be incorrect ) and I live in a small town, called Gorredijk (8000+ pop). Since there aren't alot of war-enthusiasts here, I decided to join this WWII forum. My hobbies are everything regarding WWII, drawing, gaming and swimming. More info: I'm allergic to everything containing nuts, I dislike alcohol, drugs and people influenced by it, I smoke, I'm an Atheist, I'm currently studying ICT and most people are being angry at me whenever I'm talking about anything war-related (''You should be in a warzone, blah, blah''). Well, that's pretty much it. I hope I'll have a great time around here and leave a message if you like. :armyman6::sherman:
Welcome Noel! Good to have you here! My Father was born in Ten Post, not too far away from you! But a good drive! And Happy Birthday.......a little early!!
Thanks! I think I've heard of Ten Post. It lies in the province of Groningen, right? That's about 80 kilometers from me. So, have you ever been in the Netherlands (since your father was born here)?
You are correct! It's in Groningen. No I haven't been there, I was in Europe with a class trip many many years ago, but did not have the chance to go to the Netherlands. I hope to visit soon though!
Welcome Noel , glad to see you have already met some of our finest rogues. Bigfun can tell you more about the Netherlands than most Dutchmen
Hello Noël and welcome to the forum. You sure will learn alot of interesting stuff here. Hope you enjoy it. Happy posting.
take a look over the members list, think you will find some of your countrymen have established residency here..... welcome
Welcome to the Forum, Noel. I hope you will enjoy it here. Have a look at the sticky sharing WWII Documents. If you go into it further you will see some of the memorabilia from my father's time when he served with the Canadian Army in the Netherlands (and it all says Holland!). One of the items is a letter from a member of the family in Nijmegen with whom he was billeted to my mother. I remember being 16/17 and being interested in World War II and the military when no one else around me was interested - worse because no one expected a girl to be interested! I'm glad you found us here and hope you will learn a lot here and be able to share other aspects of the Dutch experience that you have learned. My husband is on the other computer looking for a Canadian Battlefields tour that will take us from Normandy to Holland next spring in late May & early June. (Yes Scott if I go I will take lots of pictures!)
Welcome! I'm pretty new as well! Not to mention it's nice to find another young person that is also so enthused about the subject of WWII! Hopefully you have fun around the forums!
Thanks for the welcome! Those are some great documents, I'm especially surprised that those cards in post #31 still look that good. Romantic btw, your father from Canada meets his wife-to-be in a country 6000 kilometers away. Atleast someone didn't visit the Allies Only brothels in our country! And I know what it's like when no one around you is interested in WWII, it's probably even worse when a girl is. Anyway, I hope you and your husband have a nice vacation here in Europe and take alot of pictures! Thanks for the welcome! It's indeed nice to meet another young WWII enthusiast and since you're also new here; welcome to the forums! I hope you'll also have as much fun around here as I without getting ''shot down'' as they tend to call it here. To be honest, I've already been shot down once, so I've prepared my homework . Nice signature, btw! Did you create it yourself?
Thanks! Sadly no, I did not! I find a lot of these 'love banners' around the internet actually. The caption under it was 'SS is Love'. I've found tons of them for Band of Brothers, and other WWII movies and such. Heh, I need to do some of my homework around here, compared to some of these older memebers who know almost everything. Though I do have you beat on one thing, I'm nineteen!
'SS is Love' :eh: Must have been written by someone who didn't know anything about the Waffen SS or their deeds... Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I know a few guys around here, who know everything you might ask them about. I've had a few questions posted around here about the German and Soviet forces in Berlin and the Dutch Armoured forces in 1940 and they were answered within minutes after starting the thread. Hehe, I didn't know your age (because it's hidden on your profile), but I assumed you were also 17 or 18. Oh well, close enough!
I know! I'm not sure if whoever created it actually knew what the SS even was, oh well! Right, there are some pretty sharp people around here... I'm sharp from time to time, depending on the subject really! Ha, really think I was a couple years younger? Hmm... I guess it wouldn't also help the fact that I think I'm one of the few girls on this forum also. I see a few on here from time to time... but that's about it!
