Does anyone know a site that would sell replicas of this type of uniform and what did it consist of? Thank you.
Dont think there was a snow "camo" pattern per se, just the use of sheets on helmets, and the reversible white/autumn camo pattern parka and pants the SS had. Just google WWII german camo, and hit images, you'll see a lot ofstuff.
Thanks Keystone I was going to say the same thing. Google is your friend. There are quite a few sites out there if you look. For example, At the Front Militaria
You are incorrect, the Germans painted their helmets white. They had snow camo divisions. Ever watch the Bastogne episode on Band of Brothers? It was the U.S. that offered the white helmet covers.
During the first winter in the east most units definitely used sheets or whatever white they could get. Perhaps some waffen-ss units got some better winter clothing. Here´s some kinda version for the first winter: New DML: "Adler Augen" - Heer Artillery Senior Sergeant - One Sixth Warrior Forum For the second winter I think the Germans already had the reversible winter/summer clothing in use, although don´t have any exact units that these were given or numbers being used.
cool, I think I finally found a place that has it. http://militaria-net.co.uk/oscommerce/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/44_75/products_id/645 -reversible white. I'm just going to buy a M35 helmet and spray it white.
the use of cammo for the Heer and W-Ss was alike except there was an issuance of W-Ss parkas during later 1944 as witnessed in the Ardenne and photo proof galore of thereversible used on the Ost front. white wash by spray or brush was used and also a special white camo cover in limited supplies. there was also a reversible - white and grey paka used by the W-SS via photos during the Kharkov battles in 1943. suggestion : purchase some good books on the W-SS, munin verlag German versions many translated into English now - JJF publications has many for purchase
They DID have cloth covered helmets as well as painted helmets, ya smart ass. Heres a novel idea; If you dont like the answers you get from people, then stop asking simple questions that you could find out for yourself by using google instead of getting everyone else to do your leg work for you!
MY God!!! Why do some people base thier knowledge on a freaking TV series? "'Offered the white helmet covers"? And what the hell is a "snow camo" division?
More like they improvised by taking sheets from peoples houses and made covers for their helmets and poncho's with the remaining part.
LOL His statement still doesn't make sense. Perhaps he meant that the Belgians offered the white sheets and such to the US soldiers?
I dunno, did they actually show that in Band of Brothers? Otherwise, it'd be incorrect, just like the allegation that the 101st had help and weren't totally responsible for routing the Krauts at Bastogne.
You got me on that one. Im leaning towards him being incorrect LOL. I only watch that TV show a coupla times.
First off I am thankful for everyone who posted information that I requested. If I came across as being a smart ass I am sorry, that wasn't my intention. Band of Brothers is a pretty well respected WWII mini-series among WWII buffs and WWII historians alike. But yes the Germans were not wearing snow camo helmet covers in Band of Brothers, that's all I was saying. Also this picture below is from a real M35 helmet used in WWII and for my short-film I think it would be more appealing if the helmet was painted white not covered by a white blanket.
