not sure wether this reallyis the correct place for this thread but didn't find something specifically WW2 Vehicles ... any way ... just finished and ready for shipping to europe ... the repro-bmw is based on a chinese produced CJ which was manufactured using BMW drawings after the WW2 - actually the drawings where bought from Russia and they got them from the Germans ... was built up here in china with some parts i brought over from germany (e.g. rearlights) ... the 2nd "ride" i built up - the first one is my own which i ride almost daily - the one on the pics is for my friend in France ... i took care during the build-up visiting the workshop almost all 3 days just to see wether they do their job in a proper way only thing still missing is the 500 km for first breaking in and checking for any defects which will be done by next weekend ...
Outstanding project. So now you've got our attention, how much would one of these shipped all the way back to Blighty cost then?
the one on your pic is a original BMW R75 which can be recognized on size of brakedrum, 16inch wheels and the desert-dustrespirator on the tank ... the "repop" should somehow represent such a R75 but still is a long way to go to get a 100% copy ... actually a 100% copy is impossible due to the fact that the wartime R75 had a driven sidecar which is not the case on these copies ...
from sandblasting of all parts until "breake in" which was saturday - sunday 4th and 5th of october it took 7 weeks ...
i don´t know where "Blighty" is but build-up of such a ride is 2.400 to 2.800 euros (depends on equipment and horsepower - 24 or 32) - crating and shipping to Germany Hamburg is 750 euro actually this is the 2nd bike i built up here in china see the first pic is my sidecar which has already 2.000 km on the clock without any problems is the 32 hp version which can be recognized on the shape of the zylinder pics below is the "export bike" which i built up for a friend of mine and which will be sent to europe after the break in ... aim of the break was to find any flaws or problems - the only things i found is the shock abs. of the sidecar was too weak (needs adjustment) - 3rd and 4th gear pop out sometimes (also adjustment) and large toolbox on bike started rattling coz bolts got unscrewed due to bad road cond. (needs a wrench and some LOCTITE) ...
That's a good price IMHO. They're both cracking looking machines, perhaps you might ride them over to the "War & Peace" show next year? "Blighty" is an old early 20th century nickname for Britain BTW.
i will get to Normandy-celebrations next year with the new rig ... didn't know that "Blighty" nickname ...
