Last Titanic survivor selling items

The last remaining survivor of the Titanic received over 50,000 dollars in an auction of items from the liner to raise money to pay her nursing home fees, auctioneers said Saturday.

Auctioneer Andrew Aldridge said: "It is a great amount of money, I am sure she will be very happy when we tell her the news."

Aldridge said the Titanic International Society had bid for the items with the intention of returning them to their owner.

"Unfortunately they were blown out of the water by other bidders," he said.

 

It's sad that when you go into a home, you are required to sell everything, unless you can pay up front.

 

I hope this Lady gets more attention paid to her now that they know she is a direct part of history. It is sad that she had to sell off her items.

 

Milvina Dean, born in 1912, was just two months old, I think, when she sailed on Titanic with her mother, father and older brother. When the ship sank, she was bundled up into a lifeboat along with her brother and mother and sent off into the water. Her father didn't survive.

Honestly, C. Evans, I reckon she has more than enough attention paid to her as the last survivor of the Titanic sinking. A pity she's apparently been in failing health (she's 96, after all) in recent years. She had to cancel meetings and confrences and trips that she'd been planning on, related to the Titanic.

 

I read about this earlier ,i think $18000 of the coin was for a dusty old suitcase.

 

Thanks for the additional info about her. I sure hope she wasn't "used" by anyone giving her attention.

PS, one I am glad who has been recieving all-kinds of attention-is the last living American WWI Veteran. This guy is wheelchain bound but is also determined to make appearances for those who served.
