To save Forum space, thought I'd dredge up this ancient thread ;)

Pleased to find - in London's Charing X Rd this morning - a copy of Kehrig's 'Stalingrad - Analyse und Documentation Einer Schlacht'. It's highly recommended by other historians ( eg Beevor ) but I hadn't realised that it is in fact Vol. 15 of the Official German War History. It only cost me £4 and is complete with the folder of highly detailed maps which are excellent, and worth the price alone.

Just as well, as it is in German and has never been available in translation ; all I need now are some instant German lessons.....

Good luck with that! I'm actually translating a book in German right now, never been available in English, and I speak very little German. Online translators, books and native German speakers all help get the gist of it, but dude, this is hard going. Best of luck!

£4.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: Most copies go for £100 - at least. Oh, if only the bookseller knew... :D

It's a rather dry read (there's very little of the human element of Stalingrad in there) but it is the Bible when it comes to the course of the battle on the German side.
