Paul VELDER was a non com ground soldier in the German Luftwaffe. I know that he was killed on Sept. 5, 1944 in or near the village of Wittes, near the Pas de Calais, France. I have only an old letter (1958) from the local Priest, long dead, with this information. No information has been forthcomming from the town administration in
wittes, or the German War Dead Registration. Any ideas on how to proceed?

Nothing on Volksbund.de which means he is not buried in a German cemetery, or as an unknown....

Best bet would be to contact the German BundesArchiv. I think Freiburg holds the personnel files? Maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong: Bundesarchiv - Freiburg i. Br.
