Beware Charismatic Men Who Preach 'Change'
    Editor, Times-Dispatch:
Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30th, I celebrate my independence day and on July 4th, I celebrate America's. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.
On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba and a few months later I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.
I've thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.
When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said "Praise the Lord." And when the young leader said, "I will be for change and I'll bring you change," everyone yelled, "Viva Fidel!"
But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner's guns went silent the people's guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I'm back to the beginning of my story.
Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?
    Would we?
    Manuel Alvarez Jr. Sandy Hook.

To start, it's costing us 800 Billion. Guns will come later....

It makes a lot of sense, however, it sounds like one of those email letters that make the rounds.

Granted, there is no fence to keep people in America (i.e. the Berlin Wall), and no guards on the beaches to keep people out (Soviet Union), matter of fact, America's borders are rather pourous and people stream across our borders to get in.

Much to Carl's relief, I strongly believe OLDD is going to be a one termer.

Couldn't agree with you two more. Also, im hoping daily-as well as counting down the days-to the ding-dong being here only one term. When he goes-so will idiots like the vice prez, billery-and hopefully in what? 2 years? hopefully that bulge-eyed thinga-that's speaker of the House-will also lose it's position. I tell you one thing-when the next few years are over-and HOPEFULLY the average LEMMING American dumb-o-cratic supporter-will have somehow come to their senses and vote the CORRECT person in office next time, however-I somehow doubt it. It makes me sick to my stomach-that here in Houston-though I know it has a high population of ding-dong supporters living here, that several of the local TV stations here are STILL kissing ding dongs butt by running never-ending series of ad spots on their stations as well as the seemingly never-ending stories about them on so many stupid talk shows and such.

These jack-a-mim-apes, really need to get their new-found glory at having such a weenie-being in office-done with. It's over and time to move on. We non-ding-dong voters have. :headbash:

PS, with that ""economic stimulous package" passed and ready to be instituted--to me it ONLY means that the ding dong has bought many future votes for round two at serving in the White House. Hell YES I will accept this free money-who here wouldn't? BUT I will tell you one thing--obama-lama-ding-dong still does not have my vote.

PSS, i'm spending ALL of my money on militaria-and from a dealer here in the States. That way--i'll know that my free money went to OUR economy-and NOT to some foreign Country that does NOT deserve our money. If I don't spend it all on WWII German Militaria-the rest will be spent on buying Eastern Front titles-and from an American books dealer-and I already have a place in particular-all ready picked out and ready to take my money.

The laughs on the idiot-o-crats because--though I will be getting free money--they didn't buy my next vote.

Osama promised change but looks like the same old stuff that he was criticizing. One, he passed (forced) a "stimulus" package just like 'W'. He promised to unite but the Dems are pushing the 'We won' attitude and forcing bills that have nothing to do with promoting the economy. Now he is creating an auto group to restructure the auto industry. It seems like the government is getting its hands in the banking, investment, auto and whatever else.....sounds like socialism to me.....or perhaps communism?

Not impressed. Pretty soon those Cubans will be heading back to Cuba for a better life and Americans will be crossing the Mexican border to find jobs at those American companies that moved south. Remember this quote, Last week, Obama told an audience in Florida that if his economic recovery plan does not work, "then you'll have a new president." This will be another broken promise

Bravo Ike, well-said Sir-well said. In fact, a kind of a thing already is happening. I know of several Doctors who have left the Corpus Christi area, and moved family, home and practice-to just across the border. One of these Drs was my Neurologist.

I owe you a salute soon as I get more to give.
