In a display of extreme arrogance and ignorance a fox late night news show "Red Eye" mocked Canada's war effort in Afghanistan. They said things such as: Canada is effeminate, that we are soft, that we haven't participated in Afghanistan whatsoever and other things equally ignorant.
"We have Police officers, they have mounties"
"We have bullet proof vests, they have wonderful red jackets"
"Our cops ride heavily armored cars, they ride horses"
"Isnt Canada doing what most of Europe does anyway, just rely on the USA"
    "

The fool even made remarks about how the US should invade our country because we are so weak.

I for one am outraged and eagerly await alongside Peter Mackay a decent apology from the cast of that show.

Americans rush to Canada’s defence amid Fox News fury

Talking heads mocked Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON — Canadians aren’t the only ones dismayed by the recent slurs made on a Fox News program about Canada’s soldiers in Afghanistan.

Some Americans, including a respected military expert, were also taken aback by the comments made last week on Fox’s “Red Eye” and expressed their support of Canada today.

Comment on this story in Have Your Say

“I don’t need to remind Canadians of the actual facts, but Canadians are fighting extremely hard in perhaps the most dangerous part of Afghanistan,” said Michael O’Hanlon, a specialist on U.S. national security policy and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.

“And in addition to having suffered such severe losses, they are also to my mind the No. 1 ally most admired by American commanders when I hear them speak off the record about counter-insurgency application, military heroism and general combat skills.”

Greg Gutfeld, the host of “Red Eye,” apologized today for the comments made on the March 17 show. He and his panellists mocked the Canadian army, suggested they were effeminate, said the U.S. should invade Canada and ridiculed the Mounties.

Their remarks were spurred by comments from Canada’s army chief that the military would need a year’s hiatus to regroup and refurbish after its Kandahar mission ends in 2011, a decade after Canadian troops first arrived there.

Defence Minister Peter MacKay demanded an apology not just from Gutfeld, but from all of the show’s panellists. Four more Canadian soldiers were killed in the days after the show aired, and were repatriated today.

David Biette, director of the Canada Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, said that few Americans watch “Red Eye,” which airs at 3 a.m. EST.

“I had never heard of this show before,” Biette said.

“It seems to cater to a certain audience that probably doesn’t know anything about Canada, so Canada shouldn’t really worry about it. People of intelligence know that Canada is in Afghanistan and has been for years.”

    O’Hanlon agreed.

“First let me assure Canadian friends that no one watches this show in the United States and takes the views seriously as reflective of an important element of American foreign policy,” he said.

“Secondly, if they’re accusing Canada of being soft, they’re at least 10 years out of date, which makes me wonder why they think they have any business discussing this on television.”

Even everyday Americans who keep their eyes on the news had words of support.

“Fox News should be embarrassed,” said Tanya Graham, a Milwaukee-area tech consultant.

“Anyone who reads a newspaper knows about Canada’s presence in Afghanistan and the sacrifices made there. Canada is such a great friend to America; what an insulting thing to say about a friend and neighbour.”

Some popular American websites, on the other hand, had fun with the scandal.

Gawker.com, the popular Manhattan media blog, suggested to outraged Canadians that the host of “Red Eye” is a nobody.

Under the headline “Canada Mistakes Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld for Person of Influence,” Gawker pointed out that few people watch the show. It wrote: “You silly Canadians.”

Just one more reason not to watch Fox News. Even the guy's apology isn't really an apology, but an attempt to excuse himself. Another stupid shows up. Will it never end?

    Guys,

Red Eye is on at 3am eastern time, its a comedy show.

You mean to tell me there arent Canadian television shows that use Americans as the butt of many jokes?

Its Greg Gutfield, he's a good guy, just shrug it off.

I would just like to say that the canadian military is just as good if not better than the american military so there is no reason why the canadian army should be busted on if anybody needs to be busted on it,s the people who say that canadians are not doing there job every military does there part in fighting if they did,nt do there part then they would not be fighting there or even need be there

Yeah, a show that comes on at 3AM is not to be taken seriously. Canadian outrage just gave the show its 5 minutes of fame (i've never even heard of it before).

I will note my bias, I am actually a big fan of red eye.

Its, as far as late night humor goes, probably the best show out there.

Got to admit I stopped watching it after a while, not amazingly funny, but what I watched, had its moments...Comedy is comedy, we give it a fair lee way....If the Yanks objected to everything my country throws at them in the name of comedy we'd have been at war a long time ago. And vice versa. Some comedy is more stupid than others though, perhaps you should just put this one down to hey...thats not very funny mate...

I would though if I was Canadian be more concerned to find out if the gist of the start of this routine is true....Canadian General stating there is no one to repair the armour....That would send alarm bells ringing in my ears and I'd want to know more....Perhaps if I was Canadian I would do just that and find out what they are going on about and if true, be a pretty bit p'd off if that is indeed the case. I dont want my troops driving round in things that might not work....We in UK have had that problem of are our troops kitted out right for far too long....I still dont know the answer to that one over here. But if your own guys saying it, maybe the American comedy show has highlighted it a bit more and someone might just say...what? Is this true then? What are we doing about it and who and why did it get to this stage....

But theres also the case....Canadian dead as well as USA dead....the guys in studio....I'd also want to know what exactly if anything they have done in the last few years in uniform for the cause....Then if they have'nt and are just armchair mouths as is usually the case...ignore the loud mouthed idiots. Have they seen the inside of a uniform themselves or are they just allowed to run the mouths off? Who knows...if they havent...then who cares what they say or think...

The dork that is host on red eye-is a failed comedian who happened to get an unpopular spot on Fox News. And to disspell what Lou said-FOX NEWS is one of the more truthful news stations out there-unlike cnn - which stands for: "communist news network."

PS, I hate to tell any Canadians here but-CANADA has ALREADY been invaded by the US--No not our Military but--all of our Vietnam Draft Dodgers-such as """"""the boss"""""" bruce springstring. Last name mis-spelled on purpose.

I had never heard of this show before reading this thread. I wouldn't worry about it to much. anyone in the US who has graduated high school can tell you that the Canadians are doing a marvelous job.

I THINK that show used to be on after the repeat showing of greta van susterin-another lefty that I can't stand. Anyway, his show started shortly before I moved from my Apt in Corpus-and I tried watching it a few times but found out his show is a dumb as msnbc's keith obermann--who is another stupid boring liberal BIG MOUTH. That guy has already long ago-gone around the bend. :panic:
