Will there be a withdrawal from Iraq and Afganistan within the next 8 years?

it's all about the richness of ownership of the land, the people just fall in when and where needed. It's rather obvious to me and most probably all forum members that there are powers that would like us to be everywhere when and where we cannot be all at once to stretch us incredibly thin and then an opportunity to attack Al - Q and the Taliban are just a small segment of the overall story. how perfect it is if the Somalians are fed more and more sophisticated arms from "secretive" countries. Sure it is becoming international just as several powers would like it. Presently I pity the poor Capt. who is going to loose his life over this affair - pray not, and yes that is slightly OT but then again subject to the continued terro activity in the world

Iraq- I would expect withdrawl entierly from Iraq by 2010, with an ongoing US presence in Kuwait.

Afganistan- Unsure, but we will be there for a while.

I would expect it earlier because russia is getting angry and so is china so they better hurry it up or the world may go bye bye and for some reason when bush was in the presidential seat he wanted to finish up daddys war so thats what he did the whole ******* is a conspiracy thats what it is those were missiles that hit the twin towers in 911 not passenger planes how I know because I read that they found missile remains and not plane parts completely off topic I know but I am just trying to get my point across

No way we will be in Iraq eight years from now as far as I can tell. Anyone who says that Iraq is even half as bad as it was a few years ago is mistaken. The situation there has improved by a large margin. The main body of the battalion I am stationed with just returned from Iraq with one KIA after a seven month deployment.

Afghanistan on the other hand, that is hard to say looking at history and the present situation. It is making more news time these days because it is heating up again. One unit there was recently declared combat ineffective after losing a platoon of Marines and had to be pulled out. My unit is deploying to Southern Afghanistan in November to relieve one of the battalions in my regiment. The situation there is most definitely getting more serious. Eight years down the road though, your guess is as good as mine.

Miller, dont think anyone said 8 years for Iraq, although its my view there will always be a US presence there now....Having been ther recenty, you can confirm perhaps, do the US have major permanant type bases outside of Baghdad etc, I mean in the likes of air bases that are likely to be more permanant than temporary. So much is published and said that its hard to figure out.

As for Afghanistan it never cooled down. Its hotting up for your guys again with latest announcements but some areas, not all..never cooled down at all.
