I think that the reason Starship Troopers looks "cheesy" is that, unlike most movies, the makers took reat pains to be true to the book, written in the "50's - it may not really have been a "B grade movie" - at least by intention.

Starship Troopers the movie is nothing like Starship Troopers the book. They share the same title and some characters but not much else.

I heard it was really tacky and over dramatic. I was going to see it but I changed my mind after hearing the reviews,. according to one review they say it would be a better history channel episode on dog fights rather than a movie. My friend watched it and he said other than the dog fighting action nothing else was good.

The Yamamoto film looks realy interesting. Ron Weasley in the RAF could be a hoot and a half.

"Into the White" looks interesting. It reminds me of "Hell in the Pacific" with Lee Marvin. I found some limited information on the "true story" that inspired the film (including photos of the He111 wreckage) -- does anyone have anything more substantial?

The Yamamoto one also looks promising. The music that begins around the 1:00 mark had me scratching my head, though.

LOL!! That music is, well, unexpected.

Not to sound parochial, but I hope the film comes with English subtitles, at least.

I have noticed there have been several situations where in Japanese war films the music sounds pretty much awkward. I guess it has something to do with culture etc. Maybe they are surprised about our choice of background music as well.

Not WW2, but Algeria War ( but with Monte Casino vets on both sides who were once comrades of arms fighting each other) .

The Intimate Enemies is a great film that I really recommend
