It's terrible to hear that these types of things are going on! This WWII Medal of Honor recipient was flimflammed out of his medal at a military reunion no less. He received the Medal of Honor for leading an outnumbered section of heavy machine guns during four days of fighting against German infantry and tanks in France in 1944. Apparently this goes on quite often! http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/04/30/medal.of.honor.ap/index.html
Really sad to hear about this! Yes, it´s amazing how such hyenas buzz around and what all they are willing to do to get the medal(s) (=cash). They don´t care about anything else than the money. For instance here in Finland I heard that as one local SS veteran had died it took some 24 hours and the first buyer contacted the family for the cuffs and medals....
It is indeed a sad day when people will take advantage of our heros for money. I wonder about the need to pass more legislation. Can't we just beat the snot out of folks that try to pass themselves off and leave them in their own filth? Do we have to have a law for everything? We don't have enough prison space for the crimes we have laws for now.
At the dinner following the formal Standdown of the (Army) Commando Association in Portsmouth last September, several Veterans found their berets missing when leaving the function. The dinner was not held in a military mess, nor was it paid for (in part or whole) by the MOD (or the Royal Marines come to that). The staff at the dinner were of course rented civilians – average age about 12 - who were later remembered as stumbling around grinning most of the time. On law enforcement of selling military fakes, if such bodies exist could they not fill their boots on eBay? Example, the alleged officers metal beret badge for No.2 Commando of a fighting knife with the letter ‘S’ on either side and the title ‘Commando’ at the top, is an utter TOY. No such badge with the title ‘Commando’ at the top was ever made, issued or worn. There were some badges without the title at the top, but of those I’ve seen over past years on eBay, 99.99% were all repro – worth about 50p. Same for alleged PPA badges, LRDG, Greek Sacred Heart etc. Tell eBay? DMML, there are no real people to talk to even if they gave a damn in the first place. No.9
It saddens me to think of people taking advantage of people who fought for our country, and in my opinion are some of the most respected people out there. What's next in this horrible society we live in where this is happening?
