Should be a pretty interesting dive spot now! WWII-era ship becomes sunken reef off Key West - Yahoo! News
We here on the Central Coast of NSW have won the rights to sink the recently decommissioned HMAS Adelaide of the coast of Terrigal Beach to be used as an artficial reef and dive site. The Adelaide is been readied for the sinking and will be sunk directly off the Skillion at about 1.5 nm. v.R
I was watching a tv news report of this today, with my 5 year old grandson sitting next to me. Try explaining to a 5 year old why this boat was sinking. He wanted to know how the people on board were going to get off, and would the fish go to live in it, instead. I skipped the WW2 part for now.
I don't think they sunk it there John, if you look close you can see a tug pushing it out of the shipping lane. I might just have to go and see that wreck next winter!
Yeah , the reefs cannot be that close to shore..Last time I went to key west you had to go a couple miles out to see reef.
Sad to report that the group that is trying to get the Adelaide sunk off Terrigal at the Skillion has hit a financial hurdle of failing to secure the 3 million dollars needed to make the project viable. v.R
