Hello Alan, and welcome to this fine place! We have a fairly well-developed thread on Old Hickory so you might want to start exploring that. Of course, you can't go wrong by starting with any of the threads, but you may lose yourself for hours! Cheers!
Hello Alan, Welcome to the Forum. You should post up a new thread in the Information Request section about your grandfather, I believe some other members should be able to help you there. Good luck!
Howdy Alan Good that you dropped in. You gave enough info. D Company was the the weapons company of the 1st Battalion. Weapons companies provided heavy firepower for the battalion in the form of .30 and .50 caliber machine guns, bazookas and 81mm mortars. Welcome Alan, My Father was in the 120th Infantry Anti-Tank Company 30th Division (Old Hickory). Slipdigit mention 2 web sites after his greeting. The 2nd one *30th Divison Old Hickory My Father (Thomas W. Barr) is mentioned. The site is run by Warren Watson. I sent Warren pictures from my Dad's photo album & he made a tribute to my Father for me. It's an amazing web site. HE covers the 30th Divisions 117th,119th,&120th Infantrys.
WOW ... Thank You all for the greetings and help so far ... what a great site ! ... Found a journal of the 119th for dec 44 on one of the sites you mentioned ... www.oldhickory30th.com under reports , pg 4 , 119th journal ... it mentions a chateau on 211510 and 211527 .... I believe one of the three men mentioned is my grandfather ... it goes exactly with the story we heard from the medic that was there . this , i believe , is where he won his silver star ... does anyone know the name or any info on this chateau ? thank you all again ! youve been a great help !
