Calling all adventurers and thrill seekers! This is your moment and time to lay out Your Ultimate TREK.... Truly speaking if money were no constraint, and the possibilties and time were endless... where would you go? what would you do? Last night when I got home from work, I made a hearty meal and sat down on the couch. When I turned on the tube, I found a show that I hadn't seen in a while called Globetrekkers.... This episode consisted of Ice Trekkin in the Alps with Zay Harding. This was a 7 day trip traversing 3 western european countries: France, Italy, & Switzerland. This is definitely a trip I would want to do. View attachment 6828 View attachment 6829 Life is too short!, and the time to act is now,,,,if time/money/health permit If so, there is no excuse. I look forward to hearing of your ultimate treks, and any stories from the past that you can share with all of us. take care, Mark
I did a semi-trek back in 2003...cycling on a bike, with all gear on said bike, from London to Rome...through northern France, down around Paris, into Switzerland along Lake Geneva, through the Alps, and then down the center of Italy to Rome. I still have many, many plans as far as traveling goes, but unless I either 1. marry a millionairess or 2. Win the Lottery, most of them won't see the light of day.
Muss, Here's a thought that has served me tried and true.... just write some bad checks. You'll be long gone before they never clear! I'm just joshin.....I hear ya, the millionairess would be mighty fine... Cool trek! There's nothing like embarking on an adventure with all your gear intact and the legs to get you there Thanks for sharing Mark
"Truly speaking if money were no constraint, and the possibilties and time were endless... where would you go? what would you do?" A hunting safari to Africa....To hunt game like the Sable, Greater Kudu, Gemsbok, Impala, Thomsons Gazelle, Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Cape buffalo, etc, etc.
A friend of mine about 20 years ago flew to Sydney, bought a motorcycle, and proceeded to ride around the entire coast of Australia. I think it took him 6 months but he loved ever minute of it. When he got back to Sydney, he sold the bike and flew back to LA. Me? If I were younger and richer, I'd follow those three guys who ran the Sahara. Their documentary (Running the Sahara) was on National Geographic channel earlier this year. Incredible hardships (a marathon every day for almost 5 months I think) , but beautiful (though stark) landscapes and interesting cultures along the way. Wow! That made me tired writing about their trek...I need a beer!
Your friend had the right idea tex! Talk about grabbing the bull by the horns.... I bet he has some interesting stories. It's all about leaving the comfort zone for a while, and actually living. I will definitely check out that documentary as well Mark My situation as well bummer Mark
hm i would go to austria, italy and belguim and see where my families came from the beautiful cities, thats all i would want to do.
shame on the guy in your first photo Mark he should be wearing a rock climbing helmet........even on ice. I used to teach technical Ice climbing and back country travel in the winter - still do to the military and search/rescue and med personell
The Big three Long trails in the US Appalachian Continental Divide and the Pacific Crest trails Got the time, the money could be worked out but.... I'm not in the shape that I once was.
HP, Excellent. How much you figure in time to achieve?, and costs involved.... Erich, Great observation. Safety first I always say... especially in the outdoors. Things can go wrong real fast. Mark
One very young guy, 18 iirc did all three in 18 months. I'd have to stop and smell the flowers AT is usually a 6 month deal for the average, that finish. Many start each year but only a hand full make it. The money depends a lot on your needs and comfort zone. The first man credited with doing the AT did it again when he was past 70. He was a guest on Good Morning America. He went ultra light, no sleeping bag or tent and only ate peanut butter. The usual start is in GA in late winter early spring so you can get up into ME before the weather gets really bad. There is a lot online about the AT if your really interested. HP
go do the PcT it will be worth your time, energies and monies, there is nothing like it on the planet, plus being from Germany you will see sights you've never seen before......just an encouragement, besides the trail runs right up the rumpf of my home state
HP, I appreciate the feedback. If I had the time, I'd make up the energy and costs as best I could. Peanut butter is cutting it pretty close..... maybe I'll win the lottery this week, and I'll let you know when I get back Have a good one HP Mark
I only live in Germany. Still American by birth and inclination. 1st would have to be the AT for me. Then the Continental but they both well most likely remain dreams that I take with me to the grave. HP
No thanx, ill skip the Appalachian one because I wouldn't want to end up as Dinner on the table of some inter-bred-family-of cannibals.
