Hi everyone, what a great place this is! I'm really hoping your deep knowledge can help me find the name of a film I remember watching during my childhood! This is what I can remember: - It was a gruelling drama, very accurate (not like an action film). I think it was based around the resistance, and 2 guys sloping in to a German filled city, much like an architectural european city. Anyhow, after the Germans sniffed these 2 guys out, there was a massive gun fire battle leading in to a Church. The 2 men were forced in to the cellar but the Germans could not get them. In the end, the Germans filled the cellar with water from an opening leading to the street, since they could not get down the hatch within the Church. Anyhow rather than die drowning the 2 men took each others lives, holding each other and pointing their pistols at each others heads and pulling the triggers simultaneously. There the film ended. I remember this as a fantastic film, and my dad said it was very grown up at the time (I was only about 8 I guess, circa 1984 on TV). Anybody have any ides? Stewy
carve her name with pride is another good ww2 film, with virginia mckenna.. At the end of filming party, actress Virginia McKenna served ice-cream carved from a four foot high model of herself as Violette complete with sten gun.
There are actually 2 films about the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, one of them a black and white czech made film and the other a more modern british collaberation, both of them good. By all accounts heydrich was a pretty bad guy and one of hitlers favourites,in retaliation for his killing 2 villages were wiped off the map(literally). What a rapid reply ! Many thanks, I've viewed the clip but I cannot be sure without seeing the end Church scene. I will see if I can find this on play or amazon. Splendid!
