In the last few days I've come across a couple of entries where the member's name have been struck through with a line and the words dishonorable discharge has been appended to their names. I assume that these members have committted some sort of faux pas.

Are there rules of etiquette posted somewhere? Who has the authority to discharge an individual? Once discharged, does this block them from further participation? Inquiring minds would like to know ;) Moderator, if this is a verboten subject, please feel free to delete.

Usually it's a persistent series of violations before one seems to get banned here. The moderators do, especially when dealing with neo's, try to get them to live by the rules rather than banning.

There are certain posters who will banned immediately. Spammers, for example, are immediately shown the door. Common sense generally applies. Be courteous to others, respectful of divergent opinions and support your position with good data. Also, always pay heed to the instructions you may receive from a mod or admin. Keep in mind that we are volunteers and ignoring our always reasonable requests can elicit a negative reaction from us!

When in doubt, send one of us a PM and we can discuss your concerns.

Most of the ones you have seen lately have been spammmers, who join only to advertise. Many are most likely bots, automated application.

Moderators and Admins are indicated by little Ms or As beside the username.

A Dishonorable Discharge generally is a result of one or more breaches of the rules after which a ban (or Dishonorable Discharge) may be issued either indefinitely or for a fixed amount of time.

I've also seen a few people banned due to thier racism (aka modern nazi gits who take everything in war movies 100%$ seriously). I saw one guy (who I won't mention by name) who was obsessed with the film "Downfall," and although its a good movie, he took it all literally. He said alot of racy things...HE got the pleasure of being dishonorably discharged.

Have seen several banned strike throughs where I thought the persons initial questions or comments were good and interesting. It shook me up a bit.

Does this mean that those offensive posts were deleted when the ban took effect? Or have I just missed them? (Thankfully!)

Seems to me offensive statements should be deleted.

Spam likewise: or over the years its going to add up to a lot of waste posts.

Complements to this forum's creator, admins and moderators. What a fantastic resource. Nicely done guys, one and all!

Usually comments that get a member banned or discharged end up in the "Latrine". An exception are "Warnings" that can get you a trip to the "Cooler" or discharged.

Most likely what occurs is a member gets a warning and disagrees with it. Instead of accepting the warning or cooler time the member will take his case too far and the Mods/ Admins will be left with no other option but to ban the offending party.

I was put in the cooler once. I accepted my punishment even though I didn't agree with it. However,While in the cooler, I searched and could not find any mention of the "cooler" or how long a stint in the cooler would be or anything. An easily accessable set of rules would be appreciated. Overall a great job by the mods on this forum.

    Fred,

Not all bannings are the result of posts and not all posts that cause bannings remain visible the public.

I have banned members because of private messages sent to other members and to a moderator.

Also, usually the post(s) that gets a member banned is moved to a location not visible to the general membership. You can't always go by the last posts by a banned member as to the cause of the banning.

Thanks for this thread. I had also seen the dishonorably discharged posters and mentions of "the cooler" and wondered what they were.
I also would like to commend the moderators. I am a member of several forums (on different subjects). The moderators here appear to do a good job by allowing passionate discussions without empowering trolls looking to incite an argument.
