Now here's a plane. "In 1930s Russian army was … by the idea of creating huge planes. At that times they were proposed to have as much propellers as possible to help carrying those huge flying fortresses into the air, jet propulsion has not been implemented at those times yet. Not much photos were saved since that times, because of the high secrecy levels of such projects and because a lot of time passed already. Still on the photo below you can see one of such planes - a heavy bomber K-7. Now modern history lovers in Russia try to reconstruct according the plans left in once to be top-secret Russian army archives their look in full color. This is one example based on ideas of Russian aviation engineers of that times." English Russia » Russian Flying Fortresses
LOL that translation is terrible j/k Imagine if that thing actually WORKED lol probably would've taken just one of them to take out Dresden.
The second plane looks much smaller than the monster in the first pic. The first pic looks modern though all the equipment laround it ooks vintage. Wonder what the tail weel is for, possibly to prevent the tail hitting the runway if the initial climb angle was too steep. This is very intersting I'd always believed the ANT-20 was as far as they went, has anyone any more info, tried to follow the links but got nowhere. BTW I thing the multi engined between the wars designs were because the best available engines of the the time were in the 600HP range, give a 2200Hp R-3350 and they would use fewer of them.
Actually, I think it's two different planes. The one on the bottom is a K-7 bomber. If you look closely at the first picture it appears to be computer generated. Look at the soft lines around the structures and the background.
How many miles would the take-off roll for either plane be? Good thing the Russia was so roomy at the time. tom
Definetly computer generated look at this Must admit they fooled me. They must have added these since I visited that site, worth a look as a couple are really funny http://englishrussia.com/?p=2231
