For those who gave the ultimate sacrifice: Hand Salute! For those who served with honor: Hand Salute! To those Veterans still serving: Hand Salute! Thank you for our freedom and happy Veteran's Day!
Here here to those words. I salute to all veterans present and past who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Sorry for posting twice. I found this article on yahoo about veterans day. VETERANS DAY: Metro Atlanta Man Remembers 5 Brothers Who Served - News Story - WSB Atlanta
:mourn: Mourning those who were lost, Thanking those still serving, and remembering those whos names are lost in time. Thank you for everything you do.:S!
Woah that last picture with the WW1 statue is awesome! Wish we had stuff like that, besides the flag raising and the Vietnam statues.
The tombs of the Unknown Soldiers are the most sacred of all, for in it lies every missed and missing son. A respectful quite minute to all, named and nameless.
I am an Air Force veteran and proud to have served, my service was too easy compared to so many others who have and are giving up so much for their own service, in some cases they give their all - what really bothers me about the USA is how so many American civilians take veterans and active service people for granted and think what they did is "no big deal". It is of course very much a big deal and personally This veteran is not asking for any special "rock star" type treatment since i don't warrant that, just maybe a bit more recognition for veterans as a group - for the immense sacrifices so many make in the name of freedom, for the people of the USA and for other countries as well.
I also want to belatedly SALUTE the families of those veterans, my dad was gone approximately 1/4 of my life while I was growing up serving our country on ships. It's not just the veterans themselves, but the wives, and today some husbands, who chose to stay with their spouses instead of divorce that deserve our heart-felt gratitude also. To the other "kids" who shared their parents with this nation I say THANK YOU!!!
I ran across this in one of my old files on an iomega zip-drive, and while it wasn't written about WW2 specifically, it was written after Donna Britt's visit to Arlington National Cemetery, and being struck by all those dead Americans who gave the "last full measure of their devotion". As published in the Washington Post: "Gratitude to those who do right (the right thing) is always appropriate. Because it's far too easy to do wrong. In fact, people need praise; it's like water for our ever-parched souls. Whether we're praising our 7-year-olds for telling difficult truths or admiring boys long dead for giving their lives for larger-than-life principles, we should recognize (that) the choice to do right should be celebrated because it is a choice. One that, too often, we fail to make." (Donna Britt, Feb. 28th, 2003)
