A photo from the NARA. Caption reads: "A 12.8 cm German artillery piece captured near Buer, Germany, when the 134th Infantry Regiment, 35th Division, 9th U.S. Army, advanced on town. Gun crew was also taken prisoner. "134th Inf Regt, 35th Div, XVI Corps" Date: 31 March 1945 Photographer: PFC H.W. Wilson, 168 III-SC 205840, Credit NARA. Dave
Dave I have had this pic in my collection for over 15 years, this is interesting it is buried in NARA. it is actually not really artillery but a homeoned in buried in bunker style single 128mm heavy Flak. In most likely case there should be another 3 singles in the close proximity to provide a complete Batterie along with associated LW Flak personell and bunker type systems for ammo and barrack quarters. never heard of Buer before, can we make an exact location ?
Erich, I found a Buer here in Google Maps: buer, germany - Google Maps Where did you obtain your photo? Buer, Germany - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "The Scholven/Buer synthetic oil plant was a bombing target of the Oil Campaign of World War II (the Buer town hall survived in nearly original form)." If anyone wants a high-res. version of mine, just let me know. Dave
German researcher from long ago sent me a copy of his pic when I was collecting data on the LW Flak units for a book project. no wonder I did not recognize the name, yes Flak defesnes in all catergories of 8.8cm and aobve would surround points of protection of Oil based making suppliers such as this. mopst likely you have buried some of the single 12.8cm singles on rail transport cars which was common up north in the Ruhr Gebeit along with rail 10.5's
