Hey guys. I haven't been actively participating in the forum for quite some time, and I thought I might update you guys on a major decision I made not too long ago.

It’s always been my dream to be in the armed force and experience war first hand. About a month ago, I finally made the decision to enlist in the army as an Infantryman (11x, active duty) and eventually become either a ranger or a sniper. The day I am scheduled to ship out is May 26th, 2010, about three weeks after I graduate from college (University of Pittsburgh).

    Merry Christmas to you all

You may not have picked the best branch; but, you did pick the best career field.

Oh no. Not this Marines VS Army argument again. There are plenty of elite soldiers in the Army. I enlisted in the Army instead the Marines because in the army, I will actually have a shot at joining one of the Special Operations Forces.

I won't debate or disparriage your decision. In anycase great decision, there are many more oppurtunities for you to further your education in the Army than there are in the Marines.

Good stuff COI, enjoy it and remember the two best pieces of advice I have ever been given:

'Remember, nothing lasts for ever' and 'don't let the bar stewards grind you down.'

I would never say anything choosing a career where you walk to work.

Anyway, remember that boot camp is where they see how you work under pressure. It's not impossible, it's just not the easiest thing you ever do. And you'll feel ten feet tall when you finish it.

Oh, and get a copy of Starship Troopers, the Heinlein book, not that stupid movie. Reading it asap.

If you are looking at staying in the military and making it a career, then you made a good decision. I have seen action and can only say that it is not glory at all so if that is the attitude you go in with, you will be in for a shock. Let that not be your motivator. Remember, you can still get out of it even when you are in basic. Again, if you want to be in the military career............congratulations. As a college graduation, Officer Candidate School is an option. Good luck and Godspeed.

I only had to volunteer once. After that thinks got interesting even when I didn't want them to be.

Maybe a silly question, but has anybody asked WHICH army he's joining? :D

I'm reminded of a joke one of my recently returned friends told:

Man: I had over 100 kills in Afghanistan.
    Woman: You were a sniper?
    Man: No, a cook.
    :D

The cooks course is the hardest one in the army, nobody has ever passed!

Urqh, the jedi thing was a secret! I'm working on goat staring now anyhow.

And I agree about volunteering for everything, I do as far as I can and I have yet to regret it (well, not after the pain was over). You get out what you put in as the cliche goes and you will only regret the opportunities you miss.

Just having some fun, young man. I occasional had reason to ask some of the troops if they wouldn't be happier in the Swiss Navy. :D
