Very nice tribute to the fallen Russian soldiers of WW2.. So many suffered such horrible deaths.. thanks for sharing Suzie
Thank you for posting that tribute to the fallen soldiers of the Soviet Armed Forces. Both songs are quite moving, I must say, even now, on Victory Day, (May 9th) as I go round and I see all of these veterans, and one of those songs is playing, everything else kind of ceases to have a meaning. Anyways, those weren't the only beautiful songs of the Great Patriotic War, I'll just add some more If I may. "Smuglyanka-moldavanka" YouTube - СмуглÑнка-молдaванка + Lyrics (The lyrics aren't translated, but Google always has that function, just press translate and it'll do it for you I guess) There was this brilliant comment to accompany the song, I guess this was some American trying to act smart (Jesus, will this ever stop?) "You can say what you want, but the USA didn't have to build a wall to stop people from leaving. Actually, they had to build a wall to stop people from coming. Says a lot about where people are happier to live. As for rewriting history, I doubt any country in the world has the moral higher ground." - Lolek485 I'm sorry, it's just that such comments make me retch as a Russian person, I find them highly offensive, and I can't just sit and look at them as if they're nohing. "Katyusha" - One of the more famous songs of WWII YouTube - Katyusha - Russian Red Army Choir "Get your greatcoat, we're going home" YouTube - булат окуджава "бери шинель, пошли домой" "The last fight, it's usually the hardest" YouTube - ПоÑледний бой он трудный Ñамый из к/Ñ„ ОÑвобождение "The last fight, it's usually the hardest" - by another artist YouTube - Ð›ÑŽÐ±Ñ - ПоÑледний бой
Russia produced some great music during the war...I remember as a cold war warrior myself attending a concert by the Red Army Choir in Rheindhalen Hq Germany in 80's. Two supposded cold war enemies....At end of concert, singing and dancing...I've never heared such a roar when the choir in full uniform sang the Russian Anthem of the time...Surplised the choir and dancers too.
Wow, you actually got to witness the choir that must have been quite an experience. I thought there was no interaction between the East and West in the 80's, with the Wall and everything. Well, I thought it was minimal anyway. Turns out I was wrong.
No mate, the choir actually toured the UK in 80s at various times too. I saw them first while serving in Germany and twice more in Northampton a provincial market town in England. Always got a great reception and always sold out.
Tovarish; Thanks! The Russian music of WWII/GPW is indeed something special and if the Red Army Orchestra and Choir ever come to Minnesota USA I will be the first in line for a ticket. Or I might just have to travel to Russia when I retire. Why this huge outpouring of talent and passion during the 1941-1945 period? A quote used by Chevan on the "WWII in Color forum ". . . If, as Hitler claimed to believe, the Will was all-important, the Germans had already lost the war. For what could they put against the Russians' grim determination to defend the Motherland? Greed for territory and "Sklaven", a contrived doctrine of racial "superiority", some muddled prejudices against "Bolshevism". These things were valueless against the deep patriotism of the Russians . . ." "Barbarossa", by Alan Clark JeffinMNUSA PS.
