Thank you for posting that tribute to the fallen soldiers of the Soviet Armed Forces. Both songs are quite moving, I must say, even now, on Victory Day, (May 9th) as I go round and I see all of these veterans, and one of those songs is playing, everything else kind of ceases to have a meaning.

Anyways, those weren't the only beautiful songs of the Great Patriotic War, I'll just add some more If I may.

I'm sorry, it's just that such comments make me retch as a Russian person, I find them highly offensive, and I can't just sit and look at them as if they're nohing.

Russia produced some great music during the war...I remember as a cold war warrior myself attending a concert by the Red Army Choir in Rheindhalen Hq Germany in 80's. Two supposded cold war enemies....At end of concert, singing and dancing...I've never heared such a roar when the choir in full uniform sang the Russian Anthem of the time...Surplised the choir and dancers too.

Wow, you actually got to witness the choir that must have been quite an experience. I thought there was no interaction between the East and West in the 80's, with the Wall and everything. Well, I thought it was minimal anyway. Turns out I was wrong.

 

No mate, the choir actually toured the UK in 80s at various times too. I saw them first while serving in Germany and twice more in Northampton a provincial market town in England. Always got a great reception and always sold out.

Thanks! The Russian music of WWII/GPW is indeed something special and if the Red Army Orchestra and Choir ever come to Minnesota USA I will be the first in line for a ticket. Or I might just have to travel to Russia when I retire. Why this huge outpouring of talent and passion during the 1941-1945 period? A quote used by Chevan on the "WWII in Color forum ". . .
