    Hitler planned for war with the Soviets in the 20. Stalin was hoping for a nice protracted war between the west and Germany that would exhaust Germany and make it a nice easy capture in 1943 or so, but there were no plans for war in 1941, The Soviet army was simply unready

    Frankly I do not see any pre-emptive strike by the USSR lest Germany was in extremis as that was out of character for them. The history of the SU shows that counties targeted without 'just' cause were considered generally too weak to fend off any Soviet adventurism.

    Why wouldn't the total conquest of the Mediterranean/North Africa pushing past Egypt into the Middle East at the Southern Flank of Russia not work? Because of lack of logistics/transport and the terrain?

    I refer you to the thread you earlier started on this topic, "Hitler's Strategy", and a certain post made therein.

    Clearly the Wermacht was unprepared to take on the Red Army in 1941, and was utterly unprepared for winter warfare. If Barbarossa was launched after Rommel conquered Egypt and palestine, a Blitzkrieg attack through Ukraine and Belarus, coupled with an advance through the caucuses would have done better to destableize the USSR.

    Food for thought, though; Would Turkey and Iran have offered Military support against the USSR if Rommel had taken Palestine?

    Exactly what "military support" are you proposing Iran gives? They were invaded and the Northern part of the country was crushed by Soviet troops in just a few days simultaneously as the Soviets were fighting the Germans in '41. More than a 1,000 Soviet tanks. Just wondering.

    Fair point, but lack of military preparedness did not stop Yugoslavia from combating the axis powers. I am not suggesting Iranian troops would be a large factor in such a scenario, but they would be a factor.

    Would you mind terribly reducing the font size of your advert, or are you fantastically committed to advertising for the blind?

    It depends on which side you sit;

    From Germany's perspective no, it lost them the war,
    From England's perspective yes, see above.
