History of the 43rd Division Artillery 1941-1945

For anyone who may be interested in the 43rd Infantry Division or the Division Artillery, I'm posting the entire "History of the 43rd Division Artillery - World War II - 1941-1945" by Harold R. Barker on the 152nd Field Artillery Association website. The first two chapters are available now and the rest will follow in the coming week or two.

There is no copyright and the words "Public Edition" appear where the copyright normally would, so I'm assuming I'm safe and legal in doing this.

The book is 251 pages and includes many photographs and fold-out charts. The 43rd's campaigns included Northern Solomons/New Georgia and Philippines/Luzon.

Units of the Division Artillery included:

103rd Field Artillery (105mm)
152nd Field Artillery (105mm)
169th Field Artillery (105mm)
192nd Field Artillery (155mm)

Also available for download on the same page is a narrative/diary of an artilleryman of the 203rd Field Artillery (ETO) from mobilization, training at Camp Blanding, then through each battery position from Omaha Beach through Magdeburg. The 203rd fought primarily with the 119th Field Artillery Group but also with the XIX Corps Artillery, the 30th Infantry Division, and the 228th Field Artillery Group.

I hope that somebody finds these resources useful at some point in their research....

 

I've created a name index from the book listing 275 of the names mentioned somewhere in the text. There's probably 200 more to be added, which I'll do soon.

Hopefully Google and other search engines will find it so when someone is googling a name this index will appear.

152FA, while scanning pictures to show General Hester and General Wing, I found Commanding General Artillery, Camp Shelby. General Harold R. Barker.

 

Thanks for posting those pics MDJ696....we (the 152nd FA Association) actually have the same Camp Shelby book but it's the 43rd Division Artillery version rather than the 103rd. I think the first 32 pages are probably the same, then it gets unit specific after that.

I saw where you posted in another thread that you'd be willing to post the history of the 103rd...well I'd read it if you do! The 152nd was the direct support artillery for the 103rd and was also from Maine, so their histories in WWII are closely linked. We also have a "yearbook" of the 103rd from World War I.

Here's page 3 of their history. If you have indivual photos of soldiers, Ceejay on other thread is looking for a harry or Harold Preston. I can't find any Prestons with the 103rd. I was able to find the Great Uncle for Model 8 in F Company.

Thanks for posting those 103rd pages. It filled some gaps in their history for me. Also, I've followed the other threads and searched thru the Division Artillery book for the name Ceejay was looking for but came up empty.
