Angry anti-gov't writing linked to Pentagon gunman - Yahoo! News

California man killed in a shootout with Pentagon police drove cross-country and arrived outside the military headquarters armed with two semiautomatic weapons, authorities said Friday. The shooter apparently left behind angry, anti-government Internet postings airing suspicions about the 9/11 attacks.

John Patrick Bedell, 36, of Hollister, Calif., was named as the gunman in the Thursday evening attack. Authorities said he'd had previous run-ins with the law.

Investigators have found no immediate connection to terrorism. The attack that superficially wounded two officers guarding the massive Defense Department headquarters appears to be a case of "a single individual who had issues," Richard Keevill, chief of Pentagon police, said Friday.

Hints of those issues emerged in anti-government Internet postings linked to Bedell. One blog linked to Bedell's page on the social networking site LinkedIn contained a two-part treatise on big government, including its vulnerability to being controlled by a criminal organization.

"This organization, like so many murderous governments throughout history, would see the sacrifice of thousands of its citizens, in an event such as the September 11 attacks, as a small cost in order to perpetuate its barbaric control," the blog post read.

Obviously he "had" issues. Does anyone else find it strange that the Pentagon is being protected by police officers?

I worked in the Pentagon for almost 8 years, and often wondered about security there.

MPs were replaced long ago with rent-a-cops (its cheaper and frees up troops were they are needed in combat zones). The problem is that the Metro station is directly below the Pentagon. The line was built long before active terrorism existed. Since 9/11 the bus stations have all been moved away from the Pentagon to a station further away and outside. before buses were able to stop inside the Pentagon, but those tunnels have all been sealed off and used for office space.

The building of a child care center next to the Pentagon was another concern of mine. While convenient for military & civil servants, it has to be a temping target. I am not sure if it has been moved or closed now.

Walking from north parking to my office, I could see every morning and evening lots of business jets and airplanes approaching Nation (Reagan now) airport. I often worried well before 9/11 about some nutjob flying right into the SecDef's office. After 9/11 I am sure all major DC buildings have all sorts of protection not readily visible.

Unfortunately, this case and other incidents will provoke the media to call to continue to disarm the general law-abiding citizenry.

If everyone had the right to carry, this nut-job(he must have listened to Rosie O'Donut too much) probably would have been riddled with bullets after he pulled his weapon!

Isn't that interesting, so why I was writing this post I thought I would do a little research. According to Jeff Bedell, the perp's brother, He smoked marijuanna frequently and Jeff tried to get him to stop because he saw that it was making his thinking more disordered. Bedell was a paranoid schizophrenic who had spent time in Berklee and had attended classes at UC Davis, a well known party school. Ah the "medical marijuana cards" reels its ugly head. Great example for that perk Lefties. A great example of the liberal justice activism. He was arrested for cultivating weed and for resisting a police officer in California in June 2006. Medical marijuana my ass. What genious of a Liberal judge let him go? I guess you were right after all Gott.;)
    Thank you for your service.

Was he legally allowed to carry? Did He have a permit? Most of us don't listen to that media anymore. Still more proof that gun control doesn't work and only keeps the firearms from the law abiding citizen.

I believe that resisting arrest is a felony and he should not have had the right to carry from his 2006 arrest amongst other previous run ins with the law. Brittany still looks pretty good in those shorts but I guess I'm just a womanizer:D

You guys forgot to mention these others who are fully to blame. They are:

Errol Flynn, John Wayne, Ronald Reagan, Charlton Heston, Van Johnson, Richard Widmark, Robert Mitchum, James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, James Whitmore Sr. former President(s) Bush, the Queen of England, Larry, Curly and Moe, his Holines: the Pope, the Dali Lama and the geico lizzard. Did I accidently leave anyone out?

Smith and Wesson, Federal, Glock, Winchester, and bazookas.
I'd say the rent-a-cops did their job on this occasion...thank God they were there, no?
Somewhere, someone, is thinking this calls for tighter gun control. I know that I locked my guns up extra tight, just in case they might try to get ME next...that's how it works isn't it?

    I was thinking about tighter gun control. Holy Cow ;
""Bedell was five feet from Carraway and kept shooting as Carraway retreated behind a bulletproof barrier. Carraway and Officer Colin Richards, 29, returned fire, and Officer Jeffrey Amos, 46, who been on patrol, ran to the scene and fired his submachine gun. Bedell came crashing down, the officers said.""

The trace of where the "loon" got the weapons is revealing, they were confiscated weapons from criminals. The arresting jurisdictions then sold them to licensed firearms dealers (as economic savings to the local tax-payers), who in turn sold them to private purchasers, and then the fellow who had a standing order against his owning firearms got them at a gun show in Nevada (I think). No check required.
