This story takes you into the daily lives of an average GI during World War II. It begins shortly before America's entrance into the war when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The author tells about his life on the South side of Chicago living in the shadow of the steel mills. He and his friends are enjoying their senior year in high school as the hard times of the Great Depression are coming to a close.

    US Ground-to-Air Friendly Fire Mystery

I found this while reading the memoir of 40-mm AA gunner (same as OP).

The friendly fire incident is located about the middle of the webpage but there is a map in the top half. You might also want to look at Google Maps to get a wider view, search Sankt Goar, Germany.

Nothing can be concluded definitively about this event since there is only what the AA gunner presents, albeit, it does have both points of view. The AA gunner also collected some interesting reports and made some frank remarks about his own actions.

After careful study, I can see how both reports can be true and accurate even though they seem to disagree about which direction the planes came from.
