I take it this is where I'm supposed to send a message if I'm new.

My name is Sterling Mace. I was a Marine Corps rifleman at Peleliu and Okinawa. I am now 86 years old and making a lot of new friends online. Many people seem to be interested in the book I'm writing about my life before and during the Marines. It was suggested to me that I join some forums in order to get to know a few more people. This one seems to be the largest WWII forum their is.

    Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the forum, Sterling and thank you for your service during WW2.

I'm sure it would be appreciated by all here if you could share some of your memories of your wartime experiences.

Thank you very much, gents. I served with the 1st Marine Division, K/3/5. I was in the 3rd platoon, 3rd Squad, 3rd Fireteam. I was the BAR man on my fireteam, until I lead a fireteam of my own on Okinawa.

Man, my life is trivial compared to the **** you guys had to go through.

The best we can do is to make sure that the world doesn't forget what combat vets endured for the sake of others.

    Thank you ALL!

I enjoyed a good conversation with Mr. Mace this morning on the telephone. I think that you men and women will enjoy exchanging posts with him and reading what he has to offer.

He is in the midst of publishing a book, which we are looking forward to seeing.

Thank you very much, gentlemen and ladies. It is a pleasure and an honor to be here. I'm sure I could probably post a few excerpts from the book in this forum. I've gotten the whole copy and pasted trick down now. haha.

    I see I'm a recruit. That's nice. I haven't been a recruit since 1943!!! It makes me feel a lot younger!

If anyone has any questions, I will try to answer them the best I can.

    Regards,
    sm

The honor is all ours, Mr. Mace. I would sure enjoy reading excerpts from your book. I've been boning up on the Pacific war, and your insights would surely be worth the time.

The honour is all ours Sir to have a hero on our forum, to have someone here that was willing and actually did put their live at risk everyday throughout the war so that we could all have this future is just amazing. You have done a great deed and deserve all the praised and thankyou's that you can get, I hope you have had a good life because you deserve it and I hope it will only get better for you in the years to come.

Unlike most of the members here I am from Australia, so we delt with the direct thread of invasion so the appreciation we have for the US military personnel both Army and Navy and of course the air force branches is very high. So with that I would like to say thankyou for your service the greater good of the world, men like you are what created this world and keep it safe.

Mr. Mace, Welcome to the forum! First, Thank you for your willingness to give everything to aid in making the world a better place in which to live. When the smoke lifted, you then came home, and built the world in which you imagined. Anything you would like to share with us would be a treasure to read.
