Latest addition to my tunic collection - a Luftwaffe Hauptmann tunic to a highly decorated pilot. Unfortunately the tunic is unnamed (and currently un-ironed!) so I have no reference for what awards he actually wore except that there are 8 sets of loops including 2 sets on the right breast where a DKiG & a Spanish Cross would be worn and one of the sets of loops is just under the left pocket flap where a foreign set of pilot wings could be worn (I am just waiting for a set of wings to arrive), hence the thinking of him being a pilot as opposed to a Fallschirmjager. And there is no way of knowing if the original wearer went on to win a Knights Cross.

Hey Hucks, do you want me to start looking through my books? I might be able to narrow the range of names down to a few that could be your guy?

    ANyway, fantastic tunic.

    Take care-Carl.

    Hello Carl,
I think it will be all but impossible to narrow down who the flier is. There is no way to know if he was a fighter, bomber, reconnaissance etc pilot or at what rank he was awarded the DKiG (or when) or what rank he finished the war as and what grade of Spanish Cross he was awarded although the chances are it would of been a silver or gold grade with swords. Thanks for the offer though.

Two nice original photos from the Finnish Waffen-SS men oath ceremony 1941.

"October 15th, 1941, the new Battalion flag was officially presented to the Finnisches Freiwilligen Bataillon der Waffen-SS during a ceremony at the Gross Born training grounds. After the official ceremonies, the Bn left Gross Born on December 3rd, 1941, and was transfered to the Eastern Front on five rail transports, arriving at Vinnitsa on December 8th, 1941."

    nice photos Kai,

    --------------------------

British waterbottle, the blue enamel was a result of the raw materials used in its manufacture, obviously blue isnt great camo, but the waterbottles had a fabric covering carrier to cover them up. This one had no cork so I found a replacement ;).

Hi Andy this blue bottle is WWI made. Blue bottles were widely used during WWII and I even have them adapted with leather holder (instead of canvas) with a clip to fit on the green army belt. Mine is made by General Electric Co , wellington, NZ.

Thats because I am the lucky owner of an intact oval printed WWI carboard factory label tucked in between the enamel and the canvas. I believe I have posted the picture in 2008.

Yep, a modified WWI canteen from the Kiwi expeditionnary force turned into a British WWII one. It was probably left behind in 1940 as I can't imagine 1944 troops landing with a non camouflaged blue canteen . However I can imagine RAF ground crew using these and there were several bases near my home up to June 1940 . Hey talking about the BEF, this reminds me I found a 1940 British gasmask today (rubber dated 1939 and filter 1940) , pics are coming.

I found several German crates yesterday. The seller came from Normandy and had several different types among many civilian items. I immediately recognized a German amno crate for mobile embarked guns with zinc box still in there. Wood worms had severly attacked the three bottom planks so I will have to replace those ,but the rest is in good condition. The inside label ( Geeignet für gesteuerte Bordwaffen) is still intact and markings , including eagle still visible.

Nice stuff Pierre, and I also have a fairly large amount of cancelled Hitler stamps. Mygranddad got these before the war as he was the ships Captain of a Merchant Vessel. I have about 2000 stamps from all over the world from that time period. One of these decades I guess illl get pics done of them.

Nice shells, Pierre - I think they are of the low-velocity 37mm/1-pr Maxim 'pom-pom' type, widely used in the Boer War/Victorian and into WW1 era by various armies.

Although I hate using Wiki , this link seems quite useful...
