George Steinbrenner, who rebuilt the New York Yankees into a sports empire with a mix of bluster and big bucks that polarized fans all across America, died Tuesday. He had just celebrated his 80th birthday July 4th! Steinbrenner had a heart attack, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Fla., and died at about 6:30 a.m, a person close to the owner told The Associated Press. RIP George, we'll miss you. He's definetly created a legacy in the Steinbrenner family with Hank now on the reins.
RIP. I used to play Baseball as a kid but I was actually introduced to "Steinbrenner" in Seinfeld. I hear the real Steinbrenner himself actually makes an appearance in some of the episodes. Naturally, I grew up to be a Yankees fan! He was in the army at one point wasn't he?
While I was never a fan of the man, nor the Yankees after he took over, I wish his family well, and may he rest in peace.
