George Steinbrenner, who rebuilt the New York Yankees into a sports empire with a mix of bluster and big bucks that polarized fans all across America, died Tuesday. He had just celebrated his 80th birthday July 4th!

Steinbrenner had a heart attack, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Fla., and died at about 6:30 a.m, a person close to the owner told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not disclosed those details.

    RIP George, we'll miss you.
He's definetly created a legacy in the Steinbrenner family with Hank now on the reins.

    RIP.

I used to play Baseball as a kid but I was actually introduced to "Steinbrenner" in Seinfeld. I hear the real Steinbrenner himself actually makes an appearance in some of the episodes. Naturally, I grew up to be a Yankees fan!

He was in the army at one point wasn't he?

While I was never a fan of the man, nor the Yankees after he took over, I wish his family well, and may he rest in peace.
