Just finished Revell 1/48 Junkers Ju 87 D...

Hi all, I've been away for a while but I finally completed a new one. This is the crappy little Revell kit. I'm not really concerned with authenticity as far as paint scheme and stuff goes. This was basically an easy test for my new airbrush - first time I've ever used one! Enjoy and I have more pictures if you guys would like to see more. Thanks for looking!

Thank you! Are you commenting on the weathering as well as the decals, etc with this? It's all a work in progress to be honest, but I was, for the most part, pretty pleased with the exhaust stains on the belly.

This model can be had for $10 and can be found at your local Hobby Lobby if you have any of those around and if you live in the United States. It took me the better part of a month to complete, but mostly due to time constraints and other things going on, not due to kit difficulty. It went together in a few days very easily - the hard part was getting used to my airbrush and the waiting in between coats of acrylic paint.

Ah the old Monogram kit. Built that back in the early 70's. It's actually a pretty good kit, with lots of aftermarket detail bits available.

How crappy a given kit is, is up to the modeler to make it great.

Yes it is a good kit, as far as its simplicity goes. There were a few minor fitting issues but nothing that made me hate the model itself. I try to stay away from too much aftermarket stuff, because it gets my wallet into trouble Thanks for looking!

 

Looks good to me "cd13", those airbrushes can be a real challange. Not that I know from experience on models, but I used to do a bit of airbrushing on full sized cars for a friend who ran a body/paint shop here in Mt.

 

I have an old Badger 150 I've been using for 35 years. Piece of cake. The thing to remember when using an airbrush is getting the paint to flow properly. Sometimes thinning it down just enough. Also, if you use an air compressor, get a water trap, or you will sometimes find the thing spitting a little water on your paint job. A great source of propellant if you built a lot, is a tank of nitrogen from the local welding supply shop. Last a good long time.

Like a gun, clean an airbrush thoroughly after use.

 

My airbrush was actually a very gracious gift from a good friend, one of the Iwata HP models - plus it came with a compressor and pistol grip filter to keep the moisture out. Its an awesome machine to be sure. Believe it or not, from various tests, I've found that windex is not only a great cleaner but a very nice paint thinner as well.

And as with any good machine, you will most definitely spend twice as much time cleaning/maintaining it as using it. But the results are definitely worth it. I've been using enamel spray cans all these years - egads!

cd13, great work, I work on models myself, the last one I did was the USS Missouri and once I finish my move I have a jeep willy and a jagdpanzer iv l/70 to build, but keep posting pics these look great!!!!

I am not the greatest in model making but I have fun with it. The other 2 models I mentioned I wont have those done until after my move. Years ago, I had a ton of WW 2 model planes, but they unfortunately were casualties of many moves

 

Great pictures and model! Nice presentation too. It's been a WHILE since I even attempted a ship model...perhaps one day soon. As for a lot of my old scale models over the years, I like to tell people they were unfortunate victims of flak. haha.

 

Thanks cd13. I just got back into modeling, I use to have a ton of planes years ago but they fell victim to many moves. After I settle into my new place and get situated I will work on the new models and post them when I am done
