This is my very first WW2 diorama I have ever made. The actual ground or terrain is made of foam. I took about seven floral foam blocks and glued them to a 12"x12" piece of flat wood. When the glue dried I started to carve out the shape of terrain that I wanted with sand paper and a spoon. After I had the shape of terrain that I wanted I painted the foam a sand color. After the paint dried I brushed on some watered down glue and put of regular sand. Once the glue dried withe the sand on it it made a sand paper surface over the terrain. After that all I had to was add the vegitation and figures. View attachment 13155 View attachment 13156 View attachment 13157 View attachment 13158 View attachment 13159
Be very, VERY careful using foam. One drop of liquid cement, or other similar chemical, and you will have a melted crater in the surface.
Well wasn't I lucky not to have melted it. The paint I was using was just regular acrylic paint in the small bottles. And I used Elmers glue to glue down the sand. Then Gurrila glue to glue down the figures.
Panzer 212, Amazing job!!!! Seeing that diorama makes me what to do something like that, but I know it would not be that good!!!
Good one, maybe (for strategic reasons) I'd have placed the Kübel paralel to the canon to show less surface to enemy fire, but it is true it looks nicer this way, so let's ethetics rule over tactics here.
Panzer; Great stuff! You have got me thinking that this might be a good retirement hobby. Of course I would probably just set them up and do digital photos before dissasembling or selling the diaramas (I have this thing against STUFF piling up). So where do you get your materials? I am particularly interested in the guerrilla wars in Eastern Europe. JeffinMNUSA
Panzer212, I'm a little late to this thread but nice work! The only nitpick I have is I wish the pictures were a little larger but other than that nothing wrong with that work. It's obvious you enjoyed constructing it. Look forward to more of your projects!
