Sky-watchers could be in for "fantastic views" over the next two days as the Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak. According to Nasa, the shower could produce a display of up to 80 meteors per hour. BBC News - Meteor spectacle 'set to dazzle'
Yep. We have gorgeous dark skies here, so it's a must. Laid on the sunloungers, pointing NE....glass of wine, heaven! Literally.....
Sadly here in Montana, in spite of our clear pollution free sky, our forecast is for heavy cloud cover in my neck of the woods. Also, it is expected to last for the rest of this week, and into the next. Gonna miss 'em.
Sounds like us, Clint. Rain, and more rain, and thunderstorms, and heat to turn it humid - for 2 1/2 months its felt like the Gulf States not the Canadian Prairies! I remember laying on the balcony of my apt block in the early 90s (around then) to watch the meteor showers, being amazed at the sight, then realized that the black "bird" that had flown past my 4th and top floor of the apt bldg was a bat, and I beat a retreat inside and missed seeing the rest!!
Were cloudlesshere today and the shower over our area is supposed to start about 3PM lasting till sometime after midnight.
You won't need a telescope to view the Perseids. They're 'naked eye' objects. Just 'shooting stars' really.
We missed the "Northern Lights" display a few days ago due to cloudy skies, they are calling for 'severe Thunderstorms tonight' and it doesn't look that good for the next week! I'm beginning to think that the only way it will stop raining is when it turns to snow.
