To date I am not even sure such a thing exists. I know that an MP45 was made to supplement or replace the MP44. The G3 is a sort of cross - mechanically speaking - between the MP44 and MP45. I have no knowledge of an MG44 or MG45.

My guess if such a thing did exist would be that it would be something along the lines of the Gerät Neumünster or Potsdam qualitatively speaking, a cheap rush job that will kill somebody and is more or less reliable. But probably less rather than more.

In the last days of the war, many weapons from captured stocks or from aircraft were put into use as infantry weapons as well. It is possible that someone called such a weapon "MG45" or something like that.

In any case, if there had been development of a replacement for the MG42, then it would certainly have continued after the war, which didn't happen.

Same here--ive never heard of an MG-45.

    MP-38/40. MG-34, MG-42. MP-43,MP-44, (STG-44improved MP-43), MP-34.

Could you possibly be thinking of one of these?

There was talk of re-vamping the Luftwaffe's cowling mg guns......the MG 131 .50 with a longer barrel and configuring a tripod for it.

I think that you are probably thinking of the Stg45. This was an impoved assault rifle that was designed and built by Mauser, Obendorf. It was suppose to replace the MP43, MP44, and Stg45. They did make a few copies of this weapon for the Heer, but it never reach production.

If you want to know what an Stg45 looks like, just take a look at the H&K G3. This is basically the same as the Stg45. The only differences are the Stg45 had stamped handguard, and wooden stock, 30 rd mag, and fired the 7.92 kurz.

It was definately an MG 45, I don't remember where I read about it though.

Is there any information on this replacement rifle?
