    For all you experts, a good question. Whay color was the piping on Joachim "Jochen" Peiper's crusher cap? Pink for panzer or white for infantry?

    thanks in advance,

    Pink at some point, apparently, most likely during the battle for France.

    Feldgrau.net • View topic - Waffenfarbe of Jochen Peiper?

    He may have also worn the silver in the earlier part of the war when he was serving as aide to Himmler.

    Apparently he was known for ignoring the 'everyone wear white waffenfarbe on headgear' order of late 1940.

    Waffen-SS Panzer crew headgear

    Hope this helps :)

    p.s. there are lots of photos of him with white crusher cap waffenfarbe, but no real way to tell if they are original colours or recent touch ups.

    Nigel's posted some good links. I can't come up with anything original, but everything I've read on the subject of Peiper has indicated that pink is the correct colour for the piping.

    so, would Spearhead Militaria's( barrylyndon) M34 crusher cap work( got a low budget and they don't make an m37)?

    This is the archetypal Peiper picture, although as I say I think the colour is a more recent addition. If you can get it to look something like that, it should work (it may even be an M34);

    Would anybody help me identify the leather jacket he wore in the Battle of the Bulge?

    I believe the most likely would be a U-boat jacket if it was an issued one, although these mostly were found in the HJ units - much more likely it was a personal purchase, although they tended to very roughly follow the standard jacket pattern, so you just have to find something that looks about like photos of him, and add the right decorations.

    here's a couple of pictures of the U-boat jacket - the style seems to match Peiper's from the small parts I can see in photos, but these were also not apparently all identical either. (the one on the right is possibly original)

    According to Patrick Agte's peiper biography, Peiper wore a U-Boat jacket, a quantity of which were were officially issued to the Leibstandarte from Kriegsmarine stocks at the end of 1943.

    I get the feeling that middle one is from when he was working with Himmler - the coat style is the leather greatcoat I think.

    That last one's a good 'un

    The first and third photos were taken in Hungary in early 1945, and are probably very close to how he appeared during the Bulge....

    Those are some Great photos! Thanks for the info. The only problem is I'm on a tight budget, and will have a hard time finding one of those for less then $250.
