Hunnicutt's Sherman Book

This book is unobtanium new and going for as high as $800 used.

Two publishers are out of print. I haven't been able to examine one but it seems to be highly recommended.

1) To those that have it or have laid their grubby paws on one: Is it a keystone book for a WWII armored "historian?" Mandatory read? Is the later version better than the earlier one?

2) Any option$ other than $ucking it down and paying the $teep admi$$ion price?

It is excellent, but I would wait whenever a secondhand book reaches silly money - I did, and finally got it for c.£90 when it was reprinted.
Still not cheap, but worth that price of admission.

I paid $150.00 for my copy,about $100.00 for his Pershing book and about $105.00 for his Firepower book. I have been able ,since I don't smoke ,drink or have any other bad habits!!!!, to aquire some pretty expensive books such as RAven & Robert's British BB's of WW2 (for $39.95!!!!) it was listed as poor condition BUT it just lacked a decent dust cover plus needed a little duct tape to fix one part of the back. I managed to aquire Parke's book on RN BB's but at $100.00 about the same for D. K. Brown's "Before the Ironclad" which if I would have had the money at the time I could have gotten it for $44.95 in May of 2008. Chris Shore's books on the airwar over the Western Dessert & the one for over Tunisia are also expensive but was patient and got them for alot less. Charles Bailey's "Faint Praise" isn;t exactly cheap either. However if you want to look at some other expensive books look at Anthony Marder's series the volume about Jutland at $400.00+ or Hunnicutt's M-47/M-48 book it's going for about $400.00+ on Amazon . They're on my wish list too,my wish that I win the lottery!!!!

Patience is very important but so is decisiveness when a good deal comes up.

 

I would check your sources for books. My favorite book site, alibris.com, has it used for $220. I just picked up a copy at my library through interlibrary loan. The copy I had was from an air force base library in Alabama. I'm an armor nut and like tank histories like that but I am a little disappointed in the book. It seems less technical than I was expecting but still full of tons of good info. I expect to get the Pershing book and Firepower as well.
