The CG-4A Waco. Able to slip in like a one cheek sneak and drop the goods. Once you realize what happened, the damage was done.

Who wants to claim they are like a Brewster Buffalo? A little slow and inadaquate in everything it attempts.:D

Any of the L-birds, AOP birds. Seemingly harmless light aircraft that, with a single radio call, are able to unleash more combined firepower than just about anything in the air short of massed bomber formations and nukes! Next would be a Hawker Typhoon!

If a German fighter swooped in and shot something like that down, would they get credit for a kill? Seems like a waste of bullets. They could just zoom by real close and the prop wash would crash it.

Actually very few Austers or L-birds were lost to enemy aircraft. Fragile though they are, they are also incredibly nimble little planes flying very close to the ground. Very few fighters would try and tangle with one at those altitudes. The best defense was low and slow. Far more were downed by ground fire -- the slow speeds being a definite factor. On the opposite end, there are a few claims by L-birds who had pursiong fighters crash while trying to manuaver against them. So for the L-birds, kills without bullets. As you say, why waste them when you can down an FW without them!
