Displaying a painting showing a semi-nude Adolf Hitler and a smiling Anne Frank is "in poor taste". The Anne Frank House in Amsterdam on Thursday criticised the Singapore art fair for exhibiting the art work. It was made by an Indonesian artist who said his work is meant ironically. The canvas shows Hitler with a tattoo similar to the one Nazis used to brand millions of prisoners in concentration camps. Why would you?????? no problems with the hitler send up, but putting anne frank and hitler together? uh! uh! bad taste, big time, angelo...
That's art these days. Create the most offensive thing possible and get wierdos to gawk over how ceative it is.
I find the portrait of Hitler on the far right funny, the one with the boobs. But the other portrait with Anne and Hitler posing with a child is just sick, the man who created it should be charged or something!
This wasn't displayed in the US, so the "founding fathers" have little to nothing to do with it. Some art is in bad taste, and still covered by American standards of "free speech". We don't have to like it, but we (Americans) shouldn't try to suppress it either since it's lack of appeal to others will expose it as false. Recently the US Supreme Court (mostly conservative Republican designates) found that "lying" outside of court is also covered by free speech and doing so isn't a crime. Even when it involved lying about military awards given to a person. I found that more offensive than any "art", which I can ignore or ridicule at my own discretion. Lying about being awarded a Medal of Honor and other combat awards is not bad taste, it is insulting to all those who really did receive it by their own efforts.
Where are the Jewish mobs rioting and burning down the musuem housing this "art" that is so offensive??? Crickets, crickets Hmmm....
From Wikipedia: "While religious freedom is stipulated in the Indonesian constitution, the government officially recognizes only six religions: Islam, Protestantism, Roman Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism. Although it is not an Islamic state, Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim-majority nation, with 86.1% of Indonesians being Muslim according to the 2000 census."
