Police are investigating the theft of eight bronze plaques from a foreign war memorial that stood proudly for decades as a tribute to the bravery of its troops.
Thieves have not only stolen the memorial plaques but they formed the only official list of all the veterans who died that belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6919 in Morningside, Maryland.

'It's heartbreaking to have this happen to us', Post Commander and Vietnam veteran James Holland said.

You guys are TOO leinient over there with crooks. I HOPE they find these despicable $^&**((((ards and break every bone in their feet, fingers and right arm, then make them go up and over "the sand pile" carrying 100 pound rocks to and fro. And then, to the the compost pile.

Hi Key/ if that's the case? then the death penalty can be an issue.

I don't see how these people that stole it can live with themselves. Stealing itself is bad, but from people who have risked there lives to keep us free, thats horrible. When these people are caught they should be punished for the rest of their lives, or get the death penalty. I cant believe how people could do this.

I wasn't serious about the death penalty, but I do think they should get a good sized punishment.

These stories are becoming too common now. A few years ago some punks defaced all the plaques at the local Dieppe Memorial. Here is a picture:

The people that do this probably don't even know a thing about the memorial's they're damaging - (hopefully) you would think that if they did, they wouldn't keep on damaging them.

Thank you Skipper ;-)) and fully agree. Also, if/when caught? they should also have to do a LOT of their probation-time doing community service at Vets homes and Hospitals and such. Maybe then, they will learn the errors of their ways and see how war had effects on the folks who fought in them.

Positively sickening. Makes you wonder if it's worth it sometimes. If there's anything I learned overseas it's that a lot of Americans are very, very spoiled.

As far as the records, I am sure there is a list in the town registry or something (one would hope). Or you could look at the draft records, I suppose. Wonder if they have a group of individuals looking into that.
