Texas Bell curve, I'll use that in the future.

Isn't there a saying that in Texas you have to watch a revolving door for a while to figure out if it is in use? Could be Arizona propaganda though...

Relax new posters...........pretty soon someone may figure out a new way to award the medals........and perhaps they will have to find a way to take medals away.........for largest percentage of insignificant posts,...... or highest quoter of others awards,.......... (or knee-jerk salutor awards)..........or perhaps they will place a dunce cap over the name instead.......they may have to stack em up on my name (for all the mistakes I make)..........who knows?

I suggest that you spend more time reading to see if the questions you are asking have already been asked. Also, "believing" that something is the way you think it is does not constitute proof of anything. You should provide support of your statements from a book. Many of the guys here have built a strong reputation for providing accurate info and don't always include supporting sources with their statements. It is understood that were they to be asked, they could and would.

We have no "gurus' here, but we do have people who are knowledgeable about many subjects. They generally do not comment authoritatively outside their areas of expertise.

Remember this quote, "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt." -Lincoln, Clemens, Franklin or others, depending on your source.

It's insulting to Texas and complimentary to Carl.

So saying that Carl is the 'Top of the Texas Bell Curve' I am placing him in the top 10% of all Texans and inferring that the rest of Texas is incredibly average and has to be graded on a curve.

I really must take into account the inferiority complex's non-Texan's have and not judge you all too harshly.

I'm familiar with the bell curve but the inferences were less than obvious. For instance you could be implying:
    1) Carl is average for say the US population and thus Texans are in general well below average for the US population. Which would be a slam at Texans and "damning with faint praise" for Carl.
    2) Texans are way above average and Carl is above average for a Texan. So super compliment for Carl and a compliment for Texans.
a number of variations are possible including subing different populations for that of the US.

If one takes it for granted than anyone sticking around this august site for any extended period is at the top of the bell curve for the population of interest it rather infers nothing about the population specified.

    :)

Y'all are clouding up the issue here. The point is that Carl is a pretty good ole boy for a good ole boy who lives in a state full of pretty good ole boys. Pointing out that someone stands out in a group of fellers who are dumber than a bag of hammers is an acceptable compliment when referring to good ole boys, whether they are from Texas or not. Now, any questions?

It's my curve and ergo my parameters. Carl is the sharpest crayon in the box of Texas and all crayons are at the same temperature.

Alot of people have gone off track here regarding the quetion.

As I see it if you have a question, search the site first and the answer coul'd be there, In this case it is as I had the same question but did a search and found my answer!
