    Hello,

I think your best bet might be to go to the city/town/hamlet where your grandfather lived, enlisted in, or passed away and see if there is a "veterans club" in that city (we call it the Legion in Canada, don't know why the US name is slipping!) that will likely be your best bet to see if anyone there knew your grandfather or can direct you to the right people.

    Good luck!

My grandpa also fought at the end in the Philippines. Do you know what Division he was in? My grandpa was sent to Korea at the end of the war so I don't think they would have been in the same Division.

Funny thing, my grandpa is also 5'3" with black hair and greenish hazel eyes. The only army buddy I could track down that he fought with, called him Shorty. Said that was his name in the Army.

I hope you have some luck finding someone. I have spent the past year trying to locate someone that remembers my great uncle that was killed in France with no luck. He was a replacement June 17 and KIA Aug 20 1944, but still no one remembers him as they had so many replacements come and go. If you know his Division, there are several reunions and websites for those specific Divisions and you might come across someone that way.

Two of the veterans organizations in the US are the American Legion and the Vetrans of Foreign Wars. As suggested they might be good places to start. You or your parent(s) can also get your grandfathers service records if they still exist (many were burned in a fire some time ago). Look in this thread for some pointers: http://www.ww2f.com/military-servic...esting-copies-military-personnel-records.html Those will give what unit(s) he served with and some additional information that shold make it easier to locate others that served with him.

update: after doing quite a lot of reasearch i found two u.s. army infantry divisions that fit with the time frame that my grandpa did his military service in world war 2 the 24th infantry division and the first cavalry division, i also figured out his rank but im NOT 100% certain that is correct his possible rank during his 5 years on active duty may have been staff sergeant or technical sergeant. p.s. my grandpa did not enlist in the u.s. army he was drafted.
