Hello everyone, my name is Tom Duurland (1986) and I joined this forum to discuss topics related to World War 2. I am a student of history at the University of Amsterdam, and I specialize in military history. Currently I am writing a paper about the pre-war Red Army. I am most interested in the western front, the eastern front and the battle of the Atlantic. Some of my hobbies are also related to WW2. I like to travel, and often my trips go to WW1 and WW2 battlefields. For example: I've been in various places in Normandy, at the Somme, the Ardennes, Arnhem, the Reichswald, Hungary and Berlin. Also, I collect newspapers, service books, binoculars and other stuff from first half of the twentieth century. I'm looking forward to hearing from you fellow WW2 history buffs!
G'day Tom! Glad i'm don't live in Amsterdam...i'd be a permanent fixture in the red light district, with a spliff permanently dangling nonchalantly from the side of my mouth! Not much work done... What a place to live...And live in a wartorn area, not far to travel to be touched by the war. Have respect for any students of history - Welcome aboard.
I noted you are interested in the Battle for the Atlantic, does this possibly mean you have a couple of Kriegsmarine Binoculars to display ? welcome aboard the forums
I wish! No, my collection is still modest. I have some allied binoculars, and some that I haven't identified yet.
