Hi, my name is Branson Stallter. I am researching for a book I want to write on what women did for their country during the war. I am looking for stories of what your wife or mom or grandma did during ww2. Whether it be in a tank factory or a plane factory or amunitions, or a hospital. I appreciate any help this is a project i have been wanting to do for a while, and intend on publishing. Thank you-Branson Stallter

My mom told me that because of the shortage of trained nurses during the war at home doctors offices, a doctor asked her to learn some things and she took a job helping the doctor. The doctor prepared water in syringes and allowed these nurses in training to give him water shots in the arm to train them to give injections properly. He also trained them in other areas of medical care but it always stood out in her mind how he was willing to do that to get them well trained for what they would have to do to give care. After the war my mom was always quite knowledgeable about medical things as a result of this on the job training that helped her raise her own family with good practices. I do not know if this is what you wanted or not because it was not directly related to war service. She later became a cosmetologist as her choice of career.

    Branson,

I'm not certain if it fits into your research, but a group of spouses of servicemen who were captured by the Japanese in the Philippines put together a newsletter that provided updates on their spouses' status and other information. A number of copies are available at the Combined Arms Research Library (CARL) Website. The link is here: World War II Operational Documents
